I need a Favor/Some Help...

Okay, so I am working on a Laptop for a friend of mine, and am trying to install these Netgear Drivers for his wireless adapter.

Only problem is, the Drivers are stored on an FTP Server with Netgear, and at work - they block access to FTP Servers, so I cannot get to the drivers.

Could someone download the drivers for me and re-post them someplace?

I am not 100% sure on which driver it is, but they have 5 downloadable links.

The page is located here:

WG511

Thanks to any and all that can help.
Once I download them I will reply so you can delete them.

Thanks!

All I get is an error page saying the URL is not on the server in other words a "page not found" error.

Ok I got to the page by going back around
EDIT: removed the link since the file is no longer there.

Crap.. that is filtered too.

It will not allow me to download files or access sites located on FTP or "Personal web-hosting" sites.

Is there another place you can upload it to ?

I have the same problem here at work ... ftp is blocked. Why in the he|| would they block ftp access? They could at least allow folks within the firewall area access external ftp servers.

Yes, e-mail it to me if you can:

nathan@macclenny.com

I would do it on my own time, but I forgot!

Still need it? I can probably provide a HTTP link that might dodge the firewall. PM me if you do.

For future reference: ftp has two modes, active and passive. In one of the modes (I don't remember which), the ftp data is transmitted on port 20. In the other mode, the ftp data is transmitted on a random-numbered port. It's easy for a firewall to allow connections to port 20, but hard to set up a firewall to open up for the random-numbered port... so if you're having trouble with a work firewall, sometimes, just changing modes (active and passive) will clear it up.

Don't you mean port 21? ;)

Actually with active FTP, the data is transmitted over a connection initiated by the FTP server to the FTP client. This might not work with office firewalls and some nat setups. With passive FTP, the FTP server opens a port and informs the client what port to connect to in order to initiate data transfer.

no, MD, I meant port 20. Port 21 is the ftp control port, and 20 is ftp data. See this list of services, for example.

Avder's response contains additional information that, when added to mine, would give you roughly what this site says.

A lot of times, firewalls will be configured to allow one mode but not the other.

Unfortunately, none of that will work here.

The company I work for hired a new Data Security Officer, and he is like an Access Nazi.

All ports except for a few are closed and locked. Some of the Network Admins who sit accross the room from me are even denied access to things.

But thanks for the input ;-)
