PUMP ME UP!! :D
Hey everyone,
Well, since I was in XC a couple years back, I stopped working out after that. Anyway, I want to get into better shape before I move to Utah next year. Anyway, I started working out again about 2-3 weeks ago. Basically how my workout scheduel works is that I work out until it hurts or I am too tired one day, the next day I rest in order for my muscle tissue to rebuild itself and the next day I work out again, etc.
Anyway, I am now up to two sets of 20 push ups (no girly bs), 30 arm lifts each arm with a 20 lb weight, 78 stress free sit-ups and after about another set of 92 I get tired and I do a leg lift where I lift both legs at the same time off from the ground and count to about 45 slowly, holding that position to strengthen up my upper abdomine.
However, I am somewhere between 6' 1 1/2" to 6' 2", at 155.5 lbs. I'm also looking into doing a lot of tough bike riding during this year, being that after I move I plan to utilize it to keep living and gas expenses down. It will also save on wear and tear on my car. Where I am moving, bike riding and racing is very competitive and popular so I figure it will be a good move and I love to ride my bike so it would be a perfect sport for me. I figure on riding it probably everywhere in town and only use my car for dates/winter or for driving out of town. My brother who also lives there and his son who is only about 5 years younger than myself are also into bike racing so I figure during the next few years I'll start building myself up so that maybe at some point I can ride with them. I used to be really big in to XC (Cross Country) so I figure it would be a blast, especially with family.
Anyway, my biggest problem seems to be that I have a lot of leg weight and when ever I do my leg lifts, they place a huge ammount of stress on the arch of my back. I fight to hold my back to the floor but it is incredibly hard to do for me. Anyway, is there any less painful way to accomplish building up the upper abdomine muscles?
Also, is there anything else I should add to my workout?
My arms are gaining some shape however, probably lifting big wooden pallets and heavy boxes at work for the past few years helped quicken this a bit.

Put your hands under you butt when you do leg lifts it helps a ton.
Try "Hello Dollies" going 6 inches off the deck with your legs then open all the way then close. Do sets of those then do "flutter kicks" same 6 inches then "walk" without bending your knees. That is still going to strain your back but the hands under help a ton. Plus strech your back and abs before and after execising.

The foot board of my bed is flat and straight. I sit on it facing away from the bed with my hands on the rail for balance. Then I lean back a little and start raising my legs. Of course as I raise my legs I want to fall backward so I have to lean my upper body forward. It is amazing how much force is excerted on the abdomen. Advantage is your back doesn't hurt like when you lay flat on the floor to do leg lifts.

Thanks for the advice. Any advice on toning up my chest and back muscles?
Hands under hte butt helps a lot. I forgot to try the hello dollies and butterflies but I will before I go to bed.
Also, I'm not really trying to loose weight. I'm just trying to build muscles so I don't look like a stick figure. The girls will also like it better being that I won't have the body of a 17-18 year old anymore
I'm also looking into protien drinks. Gotta love that liquified cardboard flavor!!

If you're going to get into weight gaining with protein drinks and what not, invest in a trainer to tell you how to do it and make the most of it.
Pecs can be worked with chest press and pec fly, both of which will tone your upper chest. For back, the rowing machine will get at your lats.
This website is very useful when working out:

Protein Drinks -- can't go wrong with Bevery International. IMO, best tasting and great quality supplements.
As for training chest and back -- well, we can get pretty crazy on what you can do. But the question is, what are you willing to do??
The three best movements you can do for overall are: bench press, squats and deadlifts. Incorporate those three into your workouts...you'll see great results. That of course, is just a starter

Hmmmm ugh, biggest problem here is that I don't have a bench to work with :
I'm not looking for Arnold Swartzeneger muscles but I would like to have something better than that of a 17 year old I'm tired of being considered wimpy, skinny, lanky man
But I figured having a six pack, arm muscles and then man-boobs probably won't look that great together

Sweet, just got a bench for $21. It looks like a really nice one and they were on clearance and they had them by the gross.
I also am now drinking protien drinks that actually taste like chocolate malt. My parents went into a health store and they recommended it to them according to my size and weight. At least I don't have to drink liquified cardboard this time around. I tried it before. Had to hold my nose and drink, that shiz was nasty.
