Well, Martha Stewart did her time for lying about a crime she didn't commit and is still in thrall to the state for her actions. All well and good.
Sandy "Pantsman" Berger stole top secret documents, destroyed three of them and also lied(gasp!)about it.
Whats his penalty? A ten grand fine and no jail time, no ankle jewlry...nada. So what kind of message does this send the youth of America?
The DBB Court is now in session.

"Crime doesn't pay. But only if you're rich and famous. So keep those aspirations low!"

Theres been some speculation that the people who went after martha did so because shes a successful woman, and I think theres a bit of truth to this.

It also illustrates that justice in this country is anything but blind. Its also not above prejudice, bribery, and corruption (not inferring that the latter two were involved in marthas case, but elsewhere).

I would agree justice is done as we see fit and one sided at that. The way we show it to the rest of the world is not good either. We apear to be very two faced with international justice also. I just read this on the BBC : http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4420329.stm

If these people are guilty they should be deported to the nation in which they committed the crime and where caught in.

Well, I'm no lawyer, but I bet the nature of what they were charged with, and it associated possible punishments, had something to do with their the difference in their outcomes. Nevertheless, I think Sandy Burgler got off light; I vote for higher penalties for anyone stealing anything from the National Archives.
