I just got of the phone with Comcast tech support, and they just quoted me most of their internet service is down. Right now I'm having a hard time accessing most pages. Took this one 3 minutes to load up, and seem to be working fine at the moment. Any one here having the same problem.

Ya, I had problems for the last hour or so as well.
Seems to be over now.

As far as comcast goes, it's service has been ass the last few months. I lose my connection (or it gets super slow) a LOT. Couple hours daily almost.

What hours? Do they coincide with kids getting out of school and/or people getting home from work? Tha's why I dumped Comcast, the kiddies would get off the bus at 2:45, and 10 minutes later, my ping jumped at least 100ms and stayed there 'till 10pm.

Mid-afternoon, their DNS servers were down. I could connect to websites just fine, but only by IP address.

Last night service was so spotty I thought it was a hardware issue at first. DNS was up and down all evening, but when I got on a server all was well.

maybe they're doing another upgrade.

Ain't optimism great? Implausible, but great!

Let's put it this way... we have comcast (and we're locked into it by contract), but as soon as this contract expires, we are outta here! :P

I have no other choice if I want to have cable, it really sucks. But so far I have nothing to complain about other than not being able to use the net at a time when I really needed it yesterday. Thanks Comcast.

But other than that so far its worth the 23.99 a month im paying. And other than yesterday the service has been great. Dont know what the rest of you are whining about :P

That's why you shouldn't use comcast dns servers. :P

I had problems on Thursday where I could only access a few web sites and everything else was done. Comcast clearly has issues when Google take a minute to appear.

It's unacceptable, really. The price keeps going up. They brag the speed capacity is going up too, but that's a joke the moment things slow beneath 33.6kbps. :p Imagine if other utilities did the same thing. "Oh, the electricity is running slow today so it's going to take a couple minutes to turn on the kitchen lights." "The telephone lines are slow tonight, you'll have to wait five minutes for a reply." "We're sorry, but water service will be slow tonight. It's going to take a few minutes to turn on the sink to wash your hands."

Huzzuh.

The most annoying thing is that when stuff happens at Comcast, no one bothers to say anything to the users, so I never know if it's crap on my end or theirs.

Ya, no choice here as well.

But I experience lots of problems usually in the morning/afternoon (11-2 usually).
I get disconnected a lot round there. Really pisses me off.

Had same problem at the same time as you guys, just before the upgrade.
Now speed is improved up and down. No complaints here, been good as gold to me for over a year.

well now we do have a problem.

the modem constantly cycles between online and offline.

we just had a 4th Digital Cable box installed and soon as that happened, the modem on its own cable and signal started going nuts.

who is it that is the Cable Tech Support? Capm?

My connect is supposed to be 3000 down, but its 1500 instead. WTF?

And instead of increasing download speeds, what about upload? I can get the same upload speed if I went for DSL which isnt in my area because of slackjaw teleco guys not compitent enough to do a good job. If I pay more for cable I should get faster upload. What a rip.

Oh right. When Comcast "moved" to Chicago they bought out ALL of the small cable companies. And I mean ALL, there was TCI, Jones Cable, and a bunch of smaller companies. Now the whole area is under one company. WTF is wrong with people that allow this to happen?

Comcast has a total monopoly in my area too. Their service used to be very spotty, for cable as well as Internet, but until this problem, it was mostly reliable over the last year or two. I can't complain about the download speeds and ping times, at least. According to my family back home, they were experiencing all sorts of varying service over the past several days; good to hear that it seems to be fixed.

greedy.......they couldnt make much money soo comcast spit out a nice big $$$$ deal to purchase their assets.

Top Wop are you sure it wasn't AT&T cable that bought out Jones Cable. I don't remember if Comcast was in this area yet.

AT&T cable IS Comcast. Surprise surprise.

Edit: That might have occured before the merger.

I all ways figure they where two separate companies until the Comcast name came around.

They were.
Around here, AT&T bought RoadRunner, Comcast bought AT&T (internet service).

For all the bitching I have heard about Comcasts service, I have never had a problem with them. I have found that the service is much faster and more reliable than BellSouth DSL.

I have had Comcast for my internet connection for a couple of years now, and am pleased with it.

What problems do you folks experience?

Cable wise no matter who your provider is your cable modem should be off the first split on a 2 way splitter only the other half going to the rest of the house. Most connection issues are resolved with this simple task.

my parents house is set up like this, i verified it with a Network Tester, the incoming cable is on a splitter and the output #1 goes directly to the Upstairs computer room where the modem is located. but they are still having some issues with the modem randomly and frequently going offline, online, offline, online and it simply continues to do this all day and night.

its very annoying since my parents are trying to find properties in Florida to rent out and so forth.

Comcast has already been out 3 times for that issue and another one dealing with the digital cable boxes having very bad pixelation and sound problems.

It's all DNS...

My download speed and ping times are great. But the first time I try to visit a page, it spends a couple minutes trying to get the DNS entry, and fails half the time. Anybody want to post the IP address for a good backup DNS server?

Let us know what you fine out. I got the email from comcast saying unplug the modem for a minute the plug it back in for the upgrade. Maybe I need to change a setting or something??

It happened to me last night as well. It seems unplugging the modem doesn't fix anything.
