funky network connections

I've got 2 this time -
I believe both to be software related, but all settings are right, lspfix finds nothing, but my laptop can hook into the same equipment and works fine, and I can't for the life of me figure these things out (these are seperate locations, different networks) -

1)Dell Precision 350 - Both onboard and add-in linksys network cards, when hooked to a router (or any network connection) Just sits there "aquiring network address" but never does. Otherwise the machine appears to work fine.

2)Toshiba Satellite Laptop - Establishes connection on both built-in nic and add-in wireless-g card, intermittantly drops the connection, just for a couple seconds, and comes right back.

Both machines are running XP. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1) remove TCP, reboot and readd it.

2) replace NIC drivers.

Remove QOS on both PC's.

Make sure the DHCP service in services.msc is not disabled or showing an error.

okay, the laptop issue was SBC's portal monitor software (guy is mobile alot, has multiple connections) we shut it down and the connection stabilized.

The other place I won't be back to till Monday..

try forcing the media type of the dell to 10mbps half-duplex, and see if it helps.

if that helps, then check the wiring between the machine and router.
