Definately the BEST,

When your done with D2x-w32 are you going to convert it over to D1x-w32? same spagetti code from what I hear minus a few features

Dude, please! D1x 1.43 is HORRIBLE! The USB joystick support is severely lacking and the framecap is STILL broken! (Unless you use the cmmd line option on the shortcut, but thats beside the point.)

I fixed D2X because I love to play D2. I don't play D1. Go figure. ;)

It's a case of time I guess.

If it's possible to do dual-mode D1/D2 with one executable, that is honestly preferable to me. :)

Couldn't someone else in the community who knows how to program take a look at Diedel's improvements and then just fix D1X themselves?

Good luck. I have made a ton of changes to D2X code. Does D1X use SDL?

Theres mentions of it in readme.d1x for the 1.43 build, but it doesn't use the DLL files. The instructions must be compiled into the executable.

The only other specific mention of SDL is under the notes for v1.40.

At any rate, if you do work on D1x, I will gladly make you a splash screen to use. :)
