I am Unable to see D1 and D2 games via the in-game menu.

Things I've Done:

d/l'd current version of D2x-W32

Completely disabled my firewall and anti-virus and plugged directly into the modem. No good.

tried all forms of compatability and disabled compat mode as well. No good.

Tried to forward the Kali port in my router (2213). Only, i can't access my router unless I unplug it from the modem and reset it. (wtf??)

Is there anything in IE6 that might effect IPX detection? (i have ipx protocol installed).

There are a number of small things that I've tried. so. anyone have any ideas?? I'd really like to get playing D2 again with all the cool D2x stuff Diedel has added!

duper is this post from before or after you talked to me.. on kali ( a place where the issues of the d3 soap opera of ego trips is not present)

this is how i have my settings always do it when starting fresh never have to reconfigure if i have other game issues

general info behind a router. (we know you are on a linksys)

set your computers to static ips (copy your dns servers so you can add them in the ip config screen on each computer)

192.168.1.50 (main)
192.168.1.51 (adl)

router port fowarding (rememeber to hit apply)
2213-2213 both 192.18.1.50
2214-2214 both 192.18.1.51

kali settings

settings NAT/proxy tab enable special nat checkbox, disble nat related messages, default port 2231
added in local machine ips to list

Kali setting Advanced tab

local ip spinnerbox assign local machin ip from dropdown
main rig set local port 2213, then went to adl machine set 2214

D2x-w32 settings under XP (this is hat works foir me until this was done i would either not see any game, stated IPX driver not found or would kick me back to chat

Game setup tab created other/custom, default d2 did not like it

I have different descent 2 directories
Descent2 (default likes this one)
Descent2X (custom works with this one)

Installed IPX protocol set 802.3 (instead of automatic) (this is for lan use mostly)

added d2x-w32 enable win 2000 compat mode on d2x-w32.exe and descent2.exe set the mission directory to match

addl command line
-fullscreen -grabmouse -sound22k -gl_trilinear -gl_alttexmerge -playermessages -noredundancy -gl_reticle 0 -shortpackets -pps 7 -nomovies

just enabled winsock support, drop out of order packets.. no other settings enabled

works fine launched from game bar (menu bar view/Gamebar)

Its a bug with some versions of D2x. Although very pretty, I cannot see games with 3DF_X as well as certain versions of D2x, and if you are'nt in the games list when a D2x player is there (W32) creating the game, the game disappears from the menu and even D-spy cannot find it.

Rangers are starting a project to find a version that works and is stable. Also there are quite a few "bugs" or "features" that are essentialy unfair.

One is the "friendly fire bug" in which you cannot die (only you), turning rates, and another thing, I have experinced this firsthand on the first install of D2x I tried, is the vauss inflicts more damage and it seems to fire faster.

We have some players that have spent alot of time researching this, so we are gathering info. on as many versions as we can, to sort through and find a version that emulates more fair game play.

If you wish to contribute or help in this endeavor just drop by Ranger's server on Kali, I think we are now #359. Tigeron is one of experts on the subject.

canuck off topic as usual.. this is d2x-w32 (very stable and full usb support to say the least) not d2x for windows

please dont troll in a subject that is not being discussed into this thread. create your own if you have ISSUES on what settings a host chooses when they launch a multiplayer game on a exe that is available to EVERYONE!

Some people running D2X-W32 cant see games either, same issue.

Sorry for being off topic.

hrm .. no luck.

Even without the router and without the firewall i can not see the games.

As a side note.. I can't access my router at all now. ... i think my system is posessed. :P

I still think we're missing a great business opportunity with router viruses. ;)

I notice that you listed a specific type of IPX protocol. Can different ones be laoded? is there a difference?

Have I missed some setting in windows?

Duper, if you still can't access the router, try this, use a paper clip and press the reset button for a few seconds. Then unpower it, wait a few minutes, then repower it. Then wait for the lights to fully come on before trying to access it.

did that Merlin. ... several times. .. I'll try it again tonight. *shrug* who knows.

ALTHOUGH> Even when I BYPASS the router, I can't see the games.

Well, I doubt the router is toast since you can actually still use it to get outside.

One thing to try is this.

Shut down firewall.
Flush browser cache.
Put security level in browser to low.
Then in address bar, type 192.168.1.1 and hit enter.
Make sure you allow pop-ups. if not, you won't get the authorization window.

What modem are you using ? I couldn't get the servers here visible (same Linksys) until I found out that our modem contains a firewall as well..

Verizon's Westell Wirespeed.

er.. oddly, I saw like 5 of the same modems in Goodwill yesterday. :P

Cdn. Merlin has it right, disable pop-ups, IE and Google and anyone else's. Then refresh and renew through router menu. Hope that works.

I turn off what I can. XP gets kinda cranky if you turn off too much.

I don't have a lot of extra stuff running anyways. Google, browser bars, none of that stuff.

Ok, now here's an odd twist...

I can see D1 games (with D1x 1.43) but still not D2. o_0

The modem DHCP should be fine -- it's just serving the WAN port of the Linksys. Port forwarding should be disabled tho. You'll have to find out what IP addr the modem has, 192.169.*.* is pretty unlikely. Modems usually run in the 10.0.0.* range on the local side, try 10.0.0.1 or 10.0.0.2

usually the admin page to a westell modem is 192.168.1.254 (bellsouth) but you have to be plugged directly into the modem. otherwise your browser will attempt to find that ip address via a dns server... this is a way around this but we will wait until you have everything running, if you have the handbook that was given to you by your isp in regards to the modem... just look at that for the admin page. (edit)for verizon the admin page is 192.168.1.1 admin/password=admin/password

Welp, after reading thru a number of threads on another fourm, I found that the only way to access this particular modem (a Westell A90-210015-04), you must use the USB cable connection and then apply some goofball 3rd party utility that only half works... In other words, I'm pretty much pooched in any endever to access the Admin page. The purpose for doing this (in thoery) is to turn off PPPoE and turn on Bridge mode.

I did have one brain cramp that got worked out. The line from my modem to the cable in the Uplink connector and not the WAN connector of the router. ..Thus it was working like a HUB or switch. ...Well.. then I remembered WHY this was done... When I'm plugged into WAN, I loose my connection altogether o_0; however! I can access the routers Admin page! :D

What the @#@@#$@ is going on? .. wow, looks like I found a whole can of FUBAR in the cabnet. ;)

Can you ask your ISP to get you a different modem , not usb, that is standalone? I did a quick Google on your modem, and it seems you have alot of company.

https://www.westell.com/content/verizon ... 210015.pdf
Hope it is similar to your modem and is of some use.

Good thing you don't have the 2200 series... 133 page manual lol!
http://www.westell.com/content/verizon/ ... guidec.pdf

I'm searching for other adsl modems that work on your system, preferably under $500.00

While surfing found this, great info on ADSL in general;

Ok, Kali and D2 are plaing nice again! yeah!

I had installed 1.68 to see if that might fix something and it Didn't... so , I reinstalled Kali 2.

While setting up my games again, i took notice of the Winsock support check box and a light came on.

...now, If I can just get my router and modem to play nice. .. most likely will need a new modem.

Connect to the WAN plug and go into the router setup. Have it load the defaults.

Reboot the modem, once it's up, turn on the router. Then turn on your PC.

That modem also requires the USB cable plugged in as well, don't omit that. And they said to power reset the modem, hub, and then reboot the PC for any changes to take effect.

If I do that, I get a separate connection and I have to choose which one I want to use.

Zoom makes some nice all-in-one ADSL modems, http://www.zoom.com/products/adsl_overview.html

I'm a happy camper w/ the 5554 X5. $70 at Fry's http://shop3.outpost.com/product/3893407

Edit: actually I got a spare one -- $50 and it's yours :)

Thanks Grendel, but I'm not sure it will work, unless it's on Verzion'a "list". I have a Fujitsu DSL modem here that worked fine, but Verizon isn't using them anymore. I tried hooking it up last night and it doesn't connect. Maybe it was a case of stupid user.

The modem I have is Verizon's, I'll just send it back. You can own/use your own modem but they make it VERY difficult for you and they charge you more ... go figure.

anyways.. I'll keep that inmind, I'll call them, wait an hour on hold then talk to a braindead kid on the other side and prolly get nowhere. ;) but maybe I will ... may i'll win the lottery.. hm.. it could happen.

sorry. Got crapola goin on here that's making hard to think straight. :|

Should be easy if you can access your current modem setup -- basic parameters are VPI, VCI and encapsulation plus MRU/MTU/MSS (default should work), authentication mode (CHAP/PAP/Auto) and your PPP/PPOoE account values (if any). Might be handy to write all that down and then trying to get the 2nd modem going -- JIC. :)

If you can avoid using PAP, do so. At least with CHAP your username and password are sent encrypted.

Hey, noticed something, use the Linksys Router menu to set things up, and ignore the Westell... says so here;

5.6 Modem Installations
This section explains the procedures for installing Westellâ??s WireSpeed Dual Connect modem via USB connections
or via 10/100 Base-T/Ethernet connections.
Note: Please wait until you have received notification Verizon Online that your DSL line has been
activated before installing your modem.
Note: If you are using a Westell ADSL modem in conjunction with a router, refer to the router manufacturerâ??s instructions for proper installation
and configuration.

Just for giggles install the diagnostic software and see if it reports something useful as stated in section 7 in the manual.

ok, but you've completely lost me. Where is all this written? and what diagnositc and what Section 7??

Is this all supposed to be in the router's manual?

Settings to try w/ your Fuijitsu modem (from above link and the X6 documentation):

VPI: 0, VCI: 35, Protocol: PPPoE, Encapsulation: LLC

or

VPI: 0, VCI: 35, Protocol: 1483 Bridged IP, Encapsulation: LLC

I'd guess it's the former -- PPP username is usually the name part of your Verizon email address (xxx@verizon.com), the password the one you use to login to the V. Authentication mode should be auto, if that modem doesn't have it try CHAP over PAP. MRU/MTU/MSS are 1492/1492/1432.

That's what I'm supposed to do with the Westell modem. I ran across that last week and is why I was trying without any sucess to access the admin page for it. The Fujitsu modem doesn't even connect. Nothing blinks. Only the power light comes on.

But can you get into its admin page ? It might be set up into a "passive" mode, ie. not to auto connect.

the Fujistu? no. Haven't tried. It's about 4 years old... did they have admin pages then? +D
