Why crime Doesn't pay

Thought you might enjoy an exceptional candidate for this years Darwin award:

"The following mind-boggling attempt at a crime spree in Renton, Washington appeared to be the robber's first (and last), due to his lack of a previous record of violence, and his terminally stupid choices:

1. His target was H & J Leather & Firearms, a gun shop specializing in handguns.

2. The shop was full of customers -- firearms customers.

3. To enter the shop, the robber had to step around a marked police patrol car parked at the front door.

4. A uniformed officer was standing at the counter, having coffee before work.

Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold-up and fired a few wild shots from a .22 target pistol. The officer and a clerk promptly returned fire ,the police officer with a 9mm Glock 17, the clerk with a.50 Desert Eagle, assisted by several customers who also drew their guns, several of whom also fired.

The robber was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics.

Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop.

The subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds from 7 different weapons.

No one else was hurt in the exchange of fire."

This is how crimminals should be handled 'cause I bet it will be a long time before some other chump tries robbing this store. Who says conceal carry laws don't work.

Snopes says: True! (but slightly altered.)

http://www.snopes.com/crime/dumdum/gunshop.asp

1) dude didn't just walk in and fire shots. He announced he was robbing the place, and then ended up in a firefight with the store clerk and a police officer, though it's not clear who shot first.
2) Nobody except those 3 actually fired their weapons, though a box of ammo did explode and made a mess of the place
3) dude only had 4 gunshot wounds in him, not 23.
4) dude didn't die at the scene, but rather, in the hospital 4 hours later
5) the calibers of the weapons were all wrong. Dude had a .38, the clerk had a 10mm, and the cop had a 9mm (this detail was correct.)

The funniest thing is that he really did have to walk past a police car to get into the store...

By the way, crime DOES pay, its just that it only pays if youre smart, and smart people would rather make money other ways than committing crimes :D

Au contraire; even with the facts in play, it's STILL obvious this guy was a complete moron. :P :P
