I'll give it look, but that's probably about it. 209MB.

I played it. Looks really promising since they added back in assault, a new game mode, and lots of vehicles. I didn't particularly care for ut2k3 but I think I'm going to have to pick this one up when it comes out.

Where is that "welcome to last week" pic?

I've been playing it. Didn't like the new mode, Onslaught, at first, but it's grown on me and the vehicles are fun. Still gotta play it some more so I know all the nuances and little details. Seems like it would be a lot of fun on a LAN.
Love the new old Sniper Rifle; thank god it's back.

Yeah I played onslaught and enjoyed the vehicles as well. Love the flying thing.

Yeh this game is good. I'll buy it. The Objective mode (only one I've played) reminds me of Fear Factor a little bit for some reason... But yeh I love the Sniper Rifle. I'm a Battlefield 1942 fan so I should love the vehicles so much I will rape them in the butt.

I like the cool flying one (not the manta) and the truck with the blades... I havent played it enough to know the names
we should set up a DBB match
Sage, that's just not right. Vehicles don't have butts, silly. They're tailpipes.

I didn't even know this was coming out. Aside from the new game modes, is there anything drastically different than 2k3, say graphics or gameplay-wise?

I just downloaded it and had it crash like 3 times. Anyone else running a radeon 9700 and winxp and playing the demo have any crashes?
Other than that I like as it feels more like the original.

I'm running it on XP with a 9700 Pro using the Cat 4.2s and it plays great. No crashes at all in fact.

hasn't crashed once for me. I'm using a brand new ti4200 woohoo
Mehyam, there's a new mode (which you might have picked up on
) and you can drive vehicles; one, called the raptor, flies very much like a Pyro, except you use the mouse to control it and I dont think it can slide. it's pretty fun.

i run winxp with AIW 9700 Pro, nothing has crashed on me in over a year (even under havy overclocking). I run Catalyst 4.1, and ut2004 demo works without any flows.

I had VPU recovery turned off and now that I turned it back on, the game seems to run fine.

Downloaded it after seeing this thread, Assault & Onslaught are friggin wicked. I'll definately buy this when it is released if I can gather up enough extra cash to blow on it.
Does have a more classic UT feel to it that I like and a more play intensive game mode then just the plain old death match / CTF / Domination / Bombing run stuff. Lets face it, no matter how much the graphics improve most FPS games all have the same boring sh!t
Even Bombing Run was basically a variation of CTF, so is Onslaught in a way, just using the vehicles makes it a little more interesting.

Will probly get it for the build-in UnrealTV -- should be fun to watch tourneys
Don't play groundpounders tho..

I like it a lot. Onslaught is really cool. Good maps in the beta ... I heard the final will have 150 maps. I thought the maps in the 2003 version left a lot to be desired (too many dark rat mazes). The vehicles are nice, I like the tank quite a bit ... sucker does some serious damage. The defense turrets are nifty as well. Oh, and the spider mines. Lots of cool new stuff. Looks like they've really refined the game a lot. Plays smooth too (against the bots anyways).

I'll have to be honest but I was expecting repackaged 2K3 with new maps, but this game definatly is a lot better than 03 was.

I kinda like the feel of it. The stupid announcer voice is gone and it plays more like the original UT. Also the beat in Team Deathmatch is get'n it.

Performs much better than Ut2k3, even factoring in the fact I got a new video card since I bought UT2k3.

yeah i agree its better than ut2k3.....the vioce chat helps a lot too and the nuke weapon actually comes with the demo so thats a plus

I've been playing since the minute it was released (2:56 pm 2/12/04)
Onslaught kicks ass, as well as the old UT1 feel that comes with DM and CTF and AS modes. the weapons are balenced more, as are the vehicals. and jumping up and slaming back down on other players in the Manta is the coolest way to kill someone yet. you really build up some self-esteem when you pull it off.
plus the full map list of the final product looks very promising. 105 mpas in all. all ut1 style if not ported from ut2k3, all of which run silky smooth on my radeon 9800 pro.

Maybe we need to form a DBB/UT clan.

most of us got banned form the desert combat clan, but the halo clan is the ****. i guess it has 50/50 odds of succeeding

Punk, all of those look like UT2K3 map listings. I doubt with the release of a new game they'd just port a bunch of 2K3 maps over. Thats bad business IMO, people want new maps.

Why's that? There was this big hoopla made about a DC clan for Descent players, what happened to it?

Probably because they didn't like certain rules and went out of their way to continue breaking them and making asses of themselves
Just guessing here though

bama was running the show, what do you think happened to the DC clan?

O.K., I'm getting addicted (now that I got the game to stop crashing). I think I got the top kill classification when the announcer said I was "Wicked Sick". LMAO!
I could just keep playing the demo it is so good.
I can see where having a team with everyone being voiced linked would be a wild event. Well back to Deathmatch and I'll have to set the bots up another notch.

Play a DM game with 32 bots and launch a redeemer into the fray. Classic.

tyranny.
your wrong.
look in your ut2004 system dir, the map list is there for the final product.
and if you pay attention to game development over time, you would already know they were porting most of the ut2k3 maps.

And in the process, become like the second PC game im aware of to have a DVD version.
Guess which one im getting.

by woodchip
So whats the advantage of a DVD version?
Posted: Sun Feb 22, 2004 9:31 am
by [DWL]Punk
it has a bunch of add-ons and map making tutorial videos
the SE version is just the game
Posted: Sun Feb 22, 2004 9:37 am
by woodchip
And so you'd need some kind of DVD read/write player to load the game onto the comp.?
Posted: Sun Feb 22, 2004 10:29 am
by [DWL]Punk
that is correct.
the SE version is like 4 cd's due to the large number of maps

Just a DVD-ROM will do, they are down to like 40 bucks man.
