Puberty

Listening to some news show I heard something rather astounding. The onset of puberty is now being exhibited in girls as young as seven years of age. The question of what is triggering the onset is questionable. Is it diet? Some think so and the early puberty may be linked to these early developing girls being over weight.
The second theory is attributed to the rush to sexuality seen on all manner of T.V. shows. Theory is all the mental imagery may trigger some sort of hormonal splash that brings on puberty at a earlier age. Me? I think it is weird and don't have a clue.

Roidy...have fun with this one.

A few years ago some were propounding the theory that this phenomenon was due to hormones given to livestock which then pass it on to humans via milk and dairy products.

Well, since they've been seeing it in 8-9 year old girls in parts of Africa for years, I'd say it's probably not "being overweight" or "American oversexualized culture"...

It might have something to do with physical activity, actually... there are a lot more young girls who are active in serious competitive sports now than there were in years past.

well i've thought it's to do with what akula65 says, hormones within our livestock/poultry, also the strange diets we have.
but your other suggestion about mental imagery is plausable as well. the influence of the mind can be very powerful in influencing our biological systems, so perhaps we CAN influence our own puberty onset. did you read about this somewhere?

i havn't given it much thought though woodchip, maybe i'd be concerned if i had kids.

some kindof statistics would be easy to collate on this subject. especially given what lothar has said; comparing the trends on an international scale could give a better understanding of the nature of the problem - if it is a problem.

a neighbor of mine once tried to tell me it was due to growth hormones in the chicken that we eat .. KFC is killing our youth! ACK!

I imagine that some of it can be genetic. The women in Mrs Dedman's family tend to start developing early. Her little sister started when she was 8 or 9.

Not to derail this thread, but here is a link to arguments with pedophiles who want the age of concent laws changed to a lower age so they can have more freedom. They love the idea that puberty is coming at an earlier age.

If this is not biding by the rules, please delete this post

Bett, I had similar thoughts how this early puberty might affect the peds. I didn't have the guts to tie it in though.

HA! Hormones, phooey! It's obviously due to the increase in greenhouse gases ... isn't everything?

Bettina, what post in particular are you referring to?

the age at which girls and boys can start having sex is a very large question - there are 20 year olds that shouldn't be doing it, and there are 15 year olds mature enough to handle it.

In the link I attached? If so, its the whole thread. In the thread, a question was asked...."What is a pedophile". Then as the thread went on, actual pedos joined in to argue, which led to some complaining the age of consent laws were too restrictive. Some pedos would like to see it as low as 8 years old.

It is an interesting read if you care to see what AOC laws, puberty, and pedophiles have in common. Its sick.

I'd say those girls will hit puberty later instead of earlier. It's known that straining the body at a young age will delay hormonal interactions and puberty with it. Anorexia being an extreme example.

Also grown women who are serious athletes have their menstrual cycle disappear due to the extreme physical excercising. Perhaps a biological condition from early human migrations from one hunting ground to another?

I don't know why puberty is starting earlier, i just know it's costing me a fortune. I had to buy three new bras for my eleven year old this week. Do you know how much those things cost?? Then there's nail varnish, tampons, cd's, magazines, more nail varnish, latest cloths, new shoes, deoderant....did i mention nail varnish?

Boys are great, give em a football and they're happy for years.

Don't forget FC:
Perfume
Lipstick
Mascara

Magazines like "17"

Lotsa luck. Mine is eighteen now so most of that over with...as she has her own job.

What can light do for our health?

In northern climes, winter often brings the blues. A simple and proven remedy is the use of powerful light. Seasonal Affective Disorder is readily cured by sitting in front of bright light (10,000lux) for about half an hour morning and evening. The effect is brought about by regulation of the pineal gland in the brain which modulates the production of melatonin and serotonin - the molecules responsible for sleeping and waking. Darkness results in the production of melatonin which is a healthy state of affairs during the night time sleep cycle as it is conducive to healing and longevity, but, if melatonin production is not turned down in the morning by the effect of light on the pineal gland, lethargy and depression can arise in the presence of unusually high levels of melatonin during the day time activity cycle. The opposite condition of reduced melatonin caused by the modern use of prolonged artificial light is likely to have the knock-on effect of reducing the sexually inhibitive effect of melatonin and lead to the earlier onset of puberty. The power and importance of natural rhythms is not to be taken lightly!

nothing wrnog with it until some twentyfour year old starts hitting on your damn nine year old who has double ds.

I've noticed it too. girls are hitting puberty a lot earlier - they're a lot hotter at an earlier age than before. I dont think guys are though, and we eat the same things as women as far as meat and poultry, etc...i think its more of a sociological reason. our society is excpecting girls to be more sexual at an earlier age. between magazines and tv shows and music, sexuality is encouraged more, (not a bad thing) but the little girls listening to it or viewing want to be apart of it before they're ready.

If there were scientific evidence to back up that theory (suggestive power of today's society actually influencing the hormonal development of preteens) I'd love to see it. That would be incredibly interesting, but unfortunately also probably open up a wave of people who would want to regulate everything because of its possible physical implications.

Could this be why so many of the depressed people I know, work in cubicles and not outdoors?

Not sure how well this fits in but once I had a 1 1/2 year old female black Lab. At that time I had someone drop a couple of orphaned raccoons (oh boy, more raccoons). After they got big enough I let them wander out side with the dog and pretty soon they started trying to nurse on the Lab. Hard as it may be to believe but the young dog actually developed milk and did nurse the raccoons. I realise this was based on physical contact but I just wonder if deep down in the female id, something isn't there that when triggered speeds up development.

yes!
for anyone depressed i recommend lots of direct sunlight and exercise. the lack of sunlight is a common cause because people never think of it, the pineal gland needs the sun.
