We're going to sit here and do some serious Pancamming for a sol or two, and then we're going to have to decide what comes next.

and what are they calling this burnout? an "aggravated traction experiment"? :lol:

Bitchin'! :P Seriously, though, I'm glad that it seems they can get the rover to safer ground. It would really suck for the thing to be completely functional while permanently stuck in one spot.

roid, the term "sol" used for the rover missions refers to the length of a day on Mars, which is slightly different than the length of a terrestrial day. Since the operation of the rovers depends largely on the Martian day/night cycle with regards to power production, to prevent confusion over Earth days versus Mars days, the team chose the term "sol" to refer to the latter. In fact, I read that they had watches specifically made for the team members that were calibrated to the length of a Mars day. Pretty cool. :)
