Get naked & play with the sunshine

Well here we go again. All these years we've been told to avoid the sun like the plauge. Put sunscreen on and wear a wide brim hat, yada yada yada.
So here is the NEW news. Sunshine is good for you. Why?
Well because thats how the body get Vitamen D. Studies are now showing that Vit.D prevents many types of cancer...even skin cancer. Now we're not talking go out and burn yourself blistered, but sunshine in moderation is the key. I strongly suggest you take time to read the link. Meanwhile I think I will go out and do a little nude sunbathing. :)

No one is suggesting that people fry on a beach. But many scientists believe that "safe sun" - 15 minutes or so a few times a week without sunscreen - is not only possible but helpful to health.
assuming a few means three, that comes to...lessee...carry the five....45 minutes a week!

I should be dead already.

yep. sunlight is also ultra important for your pineal gland (in the brain, behind your eyes, the rumoured "soul center" of our brains, the 3rd eye).

i thought it was funny when i heard that suncream is theorised (or was it proven?) to have carcenagenic chemicals in it.

basically, yeah, get a small amount of sunlight and it's quite good for you. for vitamin D i heard it was at least 5 minutes, but hey 15mins, whatever. i think the pineal gland needs more again. this is why i no longer wear sunglasses all day while outside - because the pineal gland reacts to full spectrum sunlight - it needs UV.

Here are the facts: a single square inch of skin exposed to the sun for 5 minutes generates more vitamin D than you body can use in 24 hours.

Dear Mobitude of Mobylation, with respect to Mobicity,
Where are your facts from?

If it is true, it means that almost all humans who aren't hiding in basements playing Descent all day, would get way more than enough.

UV causes thymidine dimers in your DNA, not unlike corrupted sectors of a hard drive. IF it happens in several important genes at once, you're screwed and get cancer. Slather up :P

Ned, you actually take anything Mobius posts seriously? Better get yourself some really tall boots because where he goes the bull★■◆● will likely follow.

Ned: it doesn't hurt to get some sun once in a while. Gives you a nice tan, it does produce vitamin D, and it perks up your day. When I used to work at a summer camp I felt really good about myself. Once I started working indoors 9-5 during the summer I didn't feel nearly as happy all the time.

You know that post asking why everyone loves the DBB? I think threads like this one pretty much sum it up. :P

I couldnt agree more:
good looks, good mood, brain chemistry, etc

I think sun has much bigger psych benefits than cancer risks in many people's lives. I am not talking about the baked barbies, they are really running a risk.

Scientists are essentially saying NEVER get a burn especially in childhood. I had many . . . oh sh_t.

Now why humans evolved to think semi browned, sunburned skin is sexy, is a weirddddddd question, since it is likely harmful, skin cancer.

Or DID we evolve that? I think some cultures are periods thought pasty white was de bomb.

I like chiquitas with a little sun. But the buble gum snapping, baked barbies with dark sunglasses - Yawn. Like OMMMIGOD totally

if you're interested:

"Sensible sun exposure (usually 5â??10 min of exposure of the arms and legs or the hands, arms, and face, 2 or 3 times per week) and increased dietary and supplemental vitamin D intakes are reasonable approaches to guarantee vitamin D sufficiency."

from American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Dec. 2004.

So, drink your milk AND get some sun :)
