So I have a name for a blog and I want to register it as a dot com. After it is registered how do I host it?
Any sites host as a freebie? What might be a couple of good choices?

if you want a freebee you'll won't be able to have your own dot com. you can come close though.

eg: http://roid.hereweb.com/ i registered free a few days ago. it doesn't actually host anything at roid.hereweb.com though, what it's doing is redirecting all traffic to my personal webspace hosted on my isp. (http://roid.customer.netspace.net.au/)

it's a good idea because i can change where my website is actually located as much as i want. i could move it to zzzonline if i wanted to, or i could move it to another isp if i ever move isps.
but the address will always be http://roid.hereweb.com/ , that's the main point to doing it - it's a short address.

and it's neat coz it's free.

you can also use it to redirect to a free hosting site, perhaps like geocities (i dunno). so a free redirection site leading to a free hosting site.
may be a bit confusing though.

Some good site registrars like Go[size=0].[/size]Daddy will set you up with a redirection page. Basically visiting http://www.woodchip.com will redirect you to whatever your real URL is, like http://woodchip.blogspot.com. A lot of them also offer "cloaking", which, instead of redirecting the visitor, wraps your real website in a full-size frame. The upside: the user doesn't see your real URL in the address bar. The downside: the address bar always shows http://www.woodchip.com, even if the user switches pages; this makes copying and pasting the URL to share/link kinda hard.

You can also register domains with them (free with some packages)

If u find another host and still want to register a domain with someone, http://www.active-domain.com/ is great. D3k uses them for a redirect ( http://d3k.org ) and my sister uses them for her Photography website ( http://www.jenrutherford.com )<--- hosted on our Mher.org server.
I have also herd good things about go-daddy, though I have never used them my self.

But if u want free, u can host the server ur self using Apache or something and get a free redirecting service.

The free redirecting service that I used to use was from http://www.dyndns.org/
Good stuff, never had any problems with it, other then ur URL's will look unprofessional.

I used godady and registered my domain name. just a small fee for a few years and just pointed it to my home ip (where I have a web server set up).
