ahhh, yes... this is a classic old puzzle. I used to even know how to do it.

Google tells me the solution is 87 moves long. Ouch.

i got really close, i had it so that all the long blocks were at the top, and so that only the horizontal block and the small blocks were on one side, and the donkey was on the other, but no matter what i did, i came back to that same configuration; i couldn't get the horizontal block to move over to make room for the donkey to escape.

at that point i realized what a fantastic waste of time it was.
