Making Descent support CD audio?

I just thought of a great addition to Descent 1: CD audio! Then we could just put the D1 PSX tracks on a CD and have them play in-game. What do you think? Would this be hard to accomplish? Since D2 supports CD audio, wouldn't it be possible to reuse some/all of that code?

I'm not good enough at programming to pull this off, but I'm sure we have someone here that could do it!

put ANY audio cd into a free drive which is connected to the sound card and hit the "play" button on the drive. problem solved.

Yeah, yeah, I know. I just wanted the game to change tracks when you got to new levels, went to the menu, and what not. Like D2 does. It feels less ghetto... :P

If I'm not mistaken, D2 doesn't really do that (except for the main menu I think)... I recall it cycling through the tracks.

Both... each level starts with a certain track, and then they cycle sequentially.

Sorry, someone beat you to it. Nab the 1.42 OpenGL build of D1x off of Planet Descent under the D1 files section. Be sure and run the file with the -help command line option to see the commands available to you to stick into your d1x.ini.

Descent 2 basically had a series of level CD tracks. It would start on Track 3, for example. When Track 3 ended, it would automatically advance to Track 4 and so on. When you started the next level, it incremented the starting track to the next one, in this case Track 4, and the process repeats.

Simple solution.

Descent 2 MP3 player. Like UT2004.
