Descent 3 Error - Error: Cannot Find Object <GuideBotRed&

Hey all,

After a long hiatus, I reinstalled D3. It seems to be loading fine until right after I get to the Loading Data screen, I then get the error stated in this posts subject line.

I am on the same system that I used to run it on. The biggest difference that I can think of is XP's Service Pack 2.

Google had one hit for <GuideBotRed> http://www.spieleforum.de/forum/t39114- ... est/s.html. The problem is that it is in German, which I cannot read.

Anybody know what the problem is?

Thanks! :D

Delete the folder and reinstall (unless you have merc somewhere, in that case install merc normally, then patch to 1.4 again and you are done).

Try downloading and running this file. Itll add the entries for D3 into the registry and should eliminate the guidebotred message. I think Jeff250 originally made that file.

Yep, but be sure to open it with Notepad and replace "c:\games\descent3" with your own path. Although I can't remember if it is necessary, it can't hurt.

All you have to do is reinstall Descent 3 Mercenary pack again... that's where the error comes from (d3 Merc Install)

red guidbot is in the Black Pyro

D3 Installation procedures

Install D3
Run once, if no errors(usually not)
Install Merc
Run Once, If redguidebot error reinstall just merc !
Install 1.4 patch

Disable Vsynch in your video card options(display properties)

Run Descent 3 in D3D video mode 1 time. Disable Vsynch, relaunch d3 redected video run under open GL add this to misc section under setup tab while you are there

-nointro -framecap 0 -nopentium3 -playermessages -nooutragelogo -nosparkles -nomotionblur

when you get inside d3 again, vsynch will be enabled again. Disable it again (different vsynch for different video type and this one is not a registry entry but profile related )
