I think d2x-w32 coders deserve some praises.

Diedel and Lehm, you have done a tremendous job and need to be reminded of that from time to time.
So here is an official thank you from me at least.
Oh, and just to defuse just a little tension that I sense building up, think of everybody here as beta testers. Of course we dont expect you to fix everything we find by the next day. We'll just report what we see and if you deem it to be "needing of a fix", we all know you will get to it eventually.
Again, good job all around.

Thanks a ton for working on D2X-W32 Diedel. Me and really old friends are going play LAN this weekend and I'm really looking forward to it. You kick ass and by extension so does D2X-W32.

D2X-win32 and DLE are badass projects. I don't know these chaps Diedel and Lehm, but I feel they deserve all the praise one can tactfully give.
Also, I'd like to extend my thanks to all the nerds on the DBB who have helped beta test the program.

My "guess" is it's an application/MOD/.exe of the original source code that makes Descent 2 work better on Windows XP OS. So its not a patch coz it doesn't "patch" the original D2.exe file. Instead it uses a different .exe file from the original D2.exe file. Something like that anyways!
Diedel knows more on that!

Well - I'd call it a new program version, as lots of stuff in it have been overhauled compared to the original D2 program - first of all the graphics (OpenGL), then a lot of OS dependant stuff (mouse, joystick), finally there are a lot of new features (find the pretty complete list on my D2X page).
It's not important though imo whether ppl call D2X(-W32) a patch, a mod, or a new exe imho. I understand what they mean anyway.

I would actually call it a port if anything

Not sure it's really a port - the platform is the same... porting from Windows to Windows is ... uh ... odd.
It was, of course, a DOS program before, but it ran fine under Windows ... well, with a little tinkering.

It's an OpenGL port.
