Holiday!
Well I'm off to New York and Las Vegas from the 2nd July to the 17th July. 4 days in NY and 10 days over in the desert.
Any suggestions for places I should visit? Things I should do? It's my first holiday in the US for about 9 years and probably my last for a while so I need to do some worthwhile stuff. I'm definitely going to be around for 4th July in NY, that should be fun I've got about $700 in the piggy-bank for spending money, and it's waiting to be spent
I hope I don't bump into anyone from here..

Vegas gets old real fast (after a couple of days of gaping). Depending on how mobile you are (renting a car) you should check out some of the natural wonders near Vegas: the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Zion. At least do the Grand Canyon; it is absolutely amazing.
But these spots will be full of tourists because it's summertime, so you'll have to do some hikes to get away from the crowd. You can hike to the bottom of the Canyon and back up in about 8 hours if you're in good shape.

I second the Grand Canyon. Its $44 per night to camp right outside the park, or you can hike to the bottom and stay overnight. Just be aware that if you do hike down to the river, you have to fill out a waiver. That, and take alot of water (and wear some good hiking boots!) with you. Heat stroke is a killer you know. That, and bring something to keep you warm at night just in-case. Temps in the desert can drop pretty fast when the sun goes down. I do suggest you take the trams before you make the final decision to hike to the river. The view at sunset will blow your mind.
Not to derail your thread Robo, but I'm leaving with my folks tomorrow morning for southern California (Visiting my grandmother in Goleta, which is right outside of Santa Barbara. We won't get there until sometime on Sunday). So any of you peeps that spot a red one ton dodge pickup pulling a Montana fifth-wheel trailer going west on I-40, don't be afraid to honk and wave hello.
