Anyone follow the on and off track happenings this weekend in F1? What a letdown. Glad I didnt go this year like I had hoped to.

For those not In The Knowâ?¢, the teams running Michelin tires (14 cars out of the 20 car field) withdrew from the US Grand Prix at Indy after crippling tire problems were discovered in practice and their demands for an additional chicane in the track weren't met.

Yes I agree the race was boring but like the commentators said, you are supposed to bring 2 sets of tires to each race. Why didn't Michelin bring 2 sets in case thier high performance tires were no good????

Eccelstone went nuts w/ regulating F1 the last few years -- he's asking for something like that..

I was very disappointed.

Max and the FIA have forgotten that the REASON for F1 is to provide entertainment. The rules need to take this into account, and the Race Director *must* have the discretion to break rules in order to provide the entertainment.

Personally, I feel the best thing to do was allow ALL teams to switch tyres before the beginning of the race, but force those that did, to start from the Pit Lane.

On a sidetrack, I watched the 500 mile race in Texas (at least the "highlights" LOL) of the IRL. And I have to say, that no matter how bad F1 *EVER* gets, it will always beat the puss out of that utterly stupid oval-track garbage. LOL, no right hand turns. Yeah, like *that's* racing. HA.

Judging from what I read, it seems the biggest problem was that none of the Michelin teams were allowed (due to their contract with Michelin) to change to a different type of tire.

Yeah, crapwagons suck @ss. Shoulda watched the Champ Car race in Portland, Cristiano da Matta drove a brilliant race to victory. Sucks about the USGP, eh. What do you guys think of Max's proposed changes?

Keep in mind that a lot of these rules were put into effect to ensure a better show (after Ferrari dominated the past few seasons).

I don't blame the racecar drivers at all for not wanting to race on faulty tires. That's an entirely plausible concern. The governing body of F1 is the foolish group here, because they should have altered the track or postponed the race until the previous day. The people came to see their favorite racers compete and they deserve their money's worth.

You try watching 500 miles of Nextel Cup restrictor-plate racing at Talladega and then try to tell me that oval-track racing is boring.

about the only oval racing I have been able to get in to was dirt track racing.... watching those guys drit the rear end all the way around the turn in monte carlos is pretty cool. NASCAR Isn't my bag of tea, though.
