Fourth of July promises a possible extraordinary event. That is the impact by humans on the comet Tempel:

"The collision is expected to occur around 1:52 a.m. EDT when the comet, traveling through space at 6 miles per second, runs over the impactor, which will be shooting some of the most close-up pictures of Tempel 1 up until its death."

Let us hope there is not a intelligent race of beings residing on Tempel as they may get the wrong idea about us.

This should be really something. I was surprised to learn that the impactor portion of the spacecraft is no bigger than the average coffee table; at those speeds, I guess that's all you need for a really big bang. :)

I see sarcasm is lost on you. :)

The question is...are they going to blow it up ala Armageddon? ;)

well, a solid copper impactor the size of a coffee table is a good spank
