I'm having a problem w/ Descent 3

Post by WarAdvocat »

This one is new to me. In the middle of playing, my screen will freeze, sound will carry on as normal for a few, then that will freeze/stutter, the frozen screen will kind of stutter, go black, and then I'll find myself booted from the server and back at the TCP/IP game screen. Upon my return, players still in the server say that it looks like I lagged out of the game. This will happen a few times a night, sometimes more frequently.

This is a new issue for me. Unfortunately, it co-incides with installation of nVidia Forceware Version 77.72 & the nVidia refresh rate unlock registry key, and with numerous minor tweaks...

Virus/spyware scans + defrag have been (of course) carried out to no avail.

Anyone have any suggestions on this problem?

It happened to me as well, but it turned out to be related to crappy modem drivers and an IRQ conflict. I would start with a rollback to the old drivers and removal of your tweaks.

For various reasons I'll just accept this issue, rather than roll back video drivers...

Good tip on the IRQ conflict however. I need to check that out, along with capping frames, because I wasn't getting over 500 FPS previously.

Ok. I checked my IRQ's, even freed up some by turning off unneeded stuff, looks hunky dory...But it's still happening :(

It's only happening in Descent 3 so I'm going to guess it's the video driver. I can live with it I suppose. I have a nice 1.7ghz + voodoo5 system if need be.
