Installing XP upgrade

I have tried to install XP home upgrade and it's not copying all the files to the Windows folder. Keeps asking me if I want to retry or skip. Retry doesn't work so the installation is not working.

Any suggestions? What about trying to install in safe mode?

Sounds like the CD might be bad. Try it on another PC or if you know the file that it stops at, try copying that file directly off the CD to test and see if it's the CD that is bad.

is this a plextor cd drive?

did you try "skip" by any chance?

I would boot into windows normally, run the upgrade from inside 98 with autorun, and check the box to copy all the installation files to the hard drive in the options.

Oh yeah, always ask the obvious... Did you try cleaning the CD?

reburn the disk you are attempting to use again at 4x, or use the orginal M$ disc

Here's the latest.

I'm trying a new installation not over Windows 98.

Here's the error message I get.

I get to "Installing Windows" and get the following message:

Error:
SXS.Dll: Syntax error in manifest or policy file "D:\I386\asms\10\MSFT\Windows\GDIPLUS\GDIPLUS.MAN"on line 4.

Error:
Installation Failed: D:\I386\asms. Error Message: Incorrect function.

Fatal Error:
One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

Incorrect function.

Any of the above info apply when doing a "new" install instead of on top of Windows 98?

It's a hardware issue, unplug any usb devices esp. printers as well.

Hmm might be your vid card or drivers, try an XP certified make.
