Looking for a screen capture program

I tried fraps, and it doesn't fit what I need.

What I'm looking for needs to be fast, be able to record audio from my primary soundcard (I run two soundcards in my machine), and it can't bog down the framerate or chop up the action by introducing small pauses.

Nothing I know will not bog your system. Fraps is the best there is for gaming.

How far does your framerate go down? Anything >= 30 fps should be good enough for in-game video. I found Fraps pretty useful (I own the full version), made some nice in-game videos from HL2 at pretty high res and quality settings w/o probs. Use VirtualDub to convert the raw Fraps video clips.

I use Camtasia Studio. Works great from me! ;)

Using Fraps, I've seen it drop to 12 fps.

capturing audio is basically asking the computer to run your IDE HD all the time, and consuming the processing power to do that.

the only way to avoid that is to either get SCSI HDs or have another computer capture the audio for you.

I found using fraps you need to record a demo and then have fraps record that. Otherwise you are chugging.

So what video codec is the fastest in terms of encoding?
