I chuckled at this part...
There is concern that the beam could damage eyesight - although probably not as much as an M-16 rifle can.
heh
There's also a nice link in the article that gives a more detailed description.

Stick a bag of microwave popcorn infront of the dish, see what happens.

interesting but it looks like it would be easy to disable that puppy, and that makes me wonder how much that would cost.
insurgents would say "hey akbar shoot that thing, you know the huge thing on top."

Want to scare off a crowd of fundamentalist Muslims?
Unleash a few black puppies their way
They are considered unclean and the black ones are regarded as especially evil.
I witnessed 10 grown Somalian men scream like little girls and scatter into the corners of a room, clamoring over each other to get away from a small black puppy a visitor brought over.
They were literally terrified that it would touch or worse, lick them. Also they were worried that all their prayers would be null and void if it was present.
One of them explained that it was considered a dirty animal and that a black one represented the devil.

Countermeasures against the weapon could be quite straightforward â?? for example covering up the body with thick clothes or carrying a metallic sheet â?? or even a trash can lid â?? as a shield or reflector. Also unclear is how the active-denial technology would work in rainy, foggy or sea-spray conditions where the beam's energy could be absorbed by water in the atmosphere.

A writer from Popular Science participated in a test of this system several months ago. According to him, he was only able to stand in the beam for a split second before his body involuntarily jumped out of the way. Sounds intriguing.

I was reading an article about this in Wired. It said the idea is good so far, but it takes so much energy that the Humvee has to stop to be able to fire it. Unless perhaps this is a new version? The article I was reading was about two weeks old, a really good read though.

hmm, it must get it's power from the running engine.
and it's gotta be said:
oh no look out it's a ray run!!
PYEW! PYEW! PYEW!
also:
OH NO LOOK OUT IT'S A RAY GUN
THE RAYS ARE COMING OUT OF THE GUN
YOU SHOULD MOVE TO AVOID THE RAYS
IF THE RAYS HIT YOU WILL BE SHOT BY THE RAYS
THE RAYS ARE FAST SO YOU SHOULD BE FAST TOO
CAN YOU WIN AGAINST THE FAST RAYS FROM THE GUN?

That thing looks kinda obvious on the top of the Humvee.
"Sir, theres a strange thingy on top of that Humvee!"
- Couple of shots from AK-47s -
Meanwhile, on US Raygun Humvee Prototype 13:
"Sir, the ray has been holed - It's out of action!"
"It's overheating!"

I gotta get one of those in my apartment aimed at the door to drive away unsolicited visitors.
