Will a restore point created before a virus was infected on a system get rid of the virus?
Thanks!

in theory it should, but infected files do get backed-up in restore points.

So, get a virus scanner, TURN OFF System restore, and do a virus scan. once thats done, turn systems restore back on.

I think it depends on what virus it is. I had the pate32 virus a long time ago and restore fixed it, but I don't think it works in every case.

I wouldn't trust it though, unless you somehow backed it up OFF the system.

AVG Free edition. Install it, and update it often. (they release updates daily!) Its a LOAD better than anything out of symantec, and it doesn't eat up RAM like anything out of symantec either.
