Descent 3 Graphics problem

Descent 3 appears to have a problem showing 2D sprites on my computer. In most cases involving sprites, texture artifacts are very noticible. In particular, there are artifacts all over the menu screens, smoke particles are very obviously rectangular, and my crosshair has morphed into a rectangular sprite (a different one each time I run Descent 3) that completely obscures whatever I'm aiming at. I can provide screenshots of all of these abnormalities if needed.

My system is as follows:

Compaq running Windows XP
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.4 GHz
512 MB of RAM
Panasonic S15 monitor
Intel 82845G/GL/GE/Pe/GV Graphics controller, with the latest drivers.
Descent 3 version 1.4

The problem started appearing after I installed the latest drivers for my graphics card, so I think that's probably what's causing the problem. Is there a known solution to this problem?

Roll back your display drivers (or buy a Nvidia or ATI based video card, you won't be dissapointed by them ;) ).

You need standalone graphics card.

The "Intel Extreme" graphics should be read as "Intel Extremely Bad" graphics!

Thanks, guys. Since I have games that won't work without the latest drivers, I'm probably going to get myself a standalone. I agree with you about the Intel cards, Mobius. I'm thinking about the Ati Radeon 9600, since I'd like to aim somewhere in the middle regarding price.

Buy a 'vanilla' GeForce 6600 for around $100.00 USD, and enjoy good drivers AND good graphics.

I just bought Gigabyte X800XL (256MB) Passive Cooled.

Don't ask the price in NZ$!!

It's a great card, at a very reasonable price too. Doesn't overclock much - but what can you expect from a silent graphics card?
