His name is Angelico... and he freaks me out. Anyways, for all you spider lovers:

Does anyone know what type of spider this is?

I believe it is a Golden Orb spider. Leave it alone as it is harmless.

I had one of these spin a web in my front yard last week. The web had two lower attachments, one to the grass and one to my car side mirror. The third was way up in a tree. Anyhow, the span of the web was huge. The 'sweet spot' was only about a foot in diameter though. This is one ugly friggin spider. After it eats its body bloats to like twice the normal size and the yellow/black marking make it look like one @$$ kickn spidre ...

I'd leave it alone J. It won't bother you at all.
What's kinda neat is when they build their web, they have to sit in the middle of it just so birds won't fly though it. That one is kinda small though. I've seen some pretty damn big ones.

They do bite and will give you a nice welt for a day or two. You'll feel it but nothing real bad though.

Spiders, as a general rule, don't hunt people. Some types, such as the brown recluse, have no fear of people, and will attack you if you invade their "comfort zone", but most will simply run away if you approach. Only if cornered will most species bite.

When I lived in Guam, we had Banana Spiders all over the place. I remember a lot of them in my front and back yard. Some were very large, with very impressive webs!
There were also a lot snakes, but that's another thread entirely

What you have there is a member of the family of Giant Crab Spiders. (Heteropodidae) They are mostly tropical spiders that hold their two-clawed legs crablike. They're larger than Crab Spiders, and have teeth on their jaws. There are about 700 different species of Giant Crab Spiders.
The Banana spider is also known as the Huntsman spider. (Heteropoda venatoria), It is found around the world in tropical regions where it is welcomed in most houses because it eats cockroaches. The spiders hide in crevices during the day and come out in the evening. The females carry their egg sacks with their jaws. These spiders are found in the southern United States and are commonly imported with bananas, hence the name.
