Entropy is lots of fun but it takes so long to play. If we had a bunch of clans still active with enough plaiers you might be able to get a couple games going.fhqwgads wrote:anyone up for it?
yah
yeah, if you hack it you can make custom ships and weapons.
you can make a custom ship nobody can use so that you can be recognised.
its cheating to change damage ratios.
but you can change the skins and weapon effects
maybe even the physics design.
or was that the hog file to do that?
D'OH!

The main table file (table.gam) is contained in d3.hog. This file is responsible for every object, sound, and texture in the game. Mercenary has its own tablefile that describes the objects in the expansion pack. Likewise, levels can contain tablefiles of their own, which can add new items or override existing ones -- this is how custom textures and ships are implemented.
Editing your own version of d3.hog doesn't provide you with much benefit. One trick some people do is to replace the keyboard texture that appears when you're typing with a bullseye. But you can't change properties of mass, give yourself more sheilds, or make your weapons more powerful (like you could in D1/D2) because in D3 all that stuff is controlled by the server.

Play Monsterball Reloaded and you'll find out.AceCombat wrote:can that be changed?Stryker wrote:Monsterball's good too.
Especially when the ball's weighted.
I did a bit of editing (it took about 5 minutes of work to get the ball's physics right) and came out with MB Reloaded. It's a heck of a lot of fun to play, if somewhat annoying at times...
"Ahh... almost home free with this ball... now I shoot it up the ramp and score!"
*BANG*
"Umm... the ball's supposed to go OVER that pit, not INTO it! Dangit! Now the ball's all the way back at the center pedestal again!"
Quite a few people actually played MB Reloaded for a few days... maybe someone could set up a server running it for a while.
oh its fun cranking up your Pyro/Phoenix/Magnum and just blasting the foshiznit out of everything in SP Mode. you can modify weapon recoil, its power, how many fire, how they fire, ETC ETC ETC....Dedman wrote:Where do these files reside and how can I change them?
like okay, my Pyro:
Basic Lasers are now Level 4 Green energy is used at .01 and fires ~ 10 shots per second
Super Lasers are now Level 6 White uses .05 energy and fires at 25 shots per second
Vauss shoots a insane 86 RPS and alternates between all 5 forward firing locations. first shot is the 2 inner wing ports, second shot is 2 outer wing ports, and finally a single shot from the middle port. bullets are counted by each single bullet, not 7
MD Fires 3 simultanious no-recoil rounds.
Napalm shoots all 5 ports. and ammo count is done by .1 from 100 to 0
Microwave shoots 2 inner then 2 outer wing ports at a much faster rate, counts energy by .5
Plasma fires 2 inners, then 2 outers + centerline and, counts energy at .2 and fires at 12 shots per second
Fusion is fully automatic, no need to charge a full power shot here..... you can fire off enough fusion shots to = 2x a full power shot in less time that it takes to charge a full power shot. energy is used at .25 and fires about 8-12 shots per second.
EMD is totaly revamped, can home on a target as accurately as a homer missle. does more damage, and even fires completely differently.
Omega fires all 5 ports. uses 1/8th of the power it did use and can drop a shop in only a few milliseconds
thats just part of what i did to my pyro.
AB Speed is capable of outrunning the Seoul Korea Subway trains!!
takes less damage to kill me!! easier for the bots, much more of a challange!

hmmm
i think that now that i have enough d3 tools, i can learn to make my own mod complete with custom weapons, bots, ships, and abilities.
ill put classic 2d game ships from darius twin, galaga, gradius, and either star soldier or maybe bosconian!
i love bosconian.
be great if it were multiplayer but its an 80's game.
galaga: pyro gl
Darius: black pyro
gradius: feenie!
other: magnum.
this will be awesome. the game mode i want to make is called...
...well, i havenrt thought of a name yet.
the basic rules:
each team starts with a certain number of power orbs.
the default number will be five.
you must go to the other base and grab all the orbs and take them to your base.
you can only carry one at a time.
to win, your team must have all of the golden power orbs (which will shut down all of the other teams ability to exist and you will gain ultimate power over... uhh...
what ever the hell you gain power over )
if you destroy an enemy with an orb, you must take it back to your base manually.
other words, you get the orb and go back to your team's score zone. you can use this strategy to hide orbs, but you cannot pick up orbs in your score zone.
you can have a maximum starting orb number of twenty per base. the more orbs, the longer the game. for a quick game, one or two orbs will do but ctf is better for that.

So hyperanarchy/hoard mod? That sounds good.Iceman wrote:Good luck getting anyone to play it. Most peeps here are purists or set in their ways and have little patience for mods like that. I personally, would love to check it out but I would probably not play it more than a few times.
As for weapon and ship mods...Well, it would have to be well balanced. I just hop into UT2k4 when I feel a need for mindless spamming.
Entropy is only fun when the teams are equal or near equal and everyone's a newbie.Krom wrote:Entropy is only fun when the teams are equal or near equal.
Correlary: It's very difficult for me to have fun playing Entropy anymore and if anyone good joins an entertaining Entropy game, it'll instantly become unfun.

cool! I think anyone should be able to pick up orbs from anywhere though. You just gotta get all the opposing team's orbs in your scoring area before you can win. There should be a way to drop an orb you're carrying without suiciding.this will be awesome. the game mode i want to make is called...

Entropy Games were few and far between.
Played on many winning and losing games... but it is a lot of fun in Steel Vapor or the like with 2 very equally matched teams.
It was a lot of fun taking out the newbies that used the "fairy dust" and run back into the energy center to reload. Then to take away their energy centers first.
Entropy and Capture the Flag are still my 2 favorite team versus team modes in Descent 3.
Cooperative Mode with the Single Player missions was a lot of fun too.
P. S.
Descent 3 is reloaded on my pc since the last format of my hard drive.
Wheeeeeee!

Entropy is the best mod by far...... It is a little of all of the other mods combined (except Monsterball unless you call bouncing newbs around with a mass driver monsterball heh). I remember playing 5-6 hour games with ROX and SLY (Sunchos original bunch). God those games ruled...... Not to mention 12 straight hours of ENTROPIC INSANITY (SV server with all the weapons left in and a 0 second weapons respawn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
