I wonder if they actually had that many extras, or whether it was just a few for the close-ups and the rest was done digitally.
Either way, it's like they said: "expensive"!

There are renderers out there specifically engineered for crowd simulation. Used a lot in movies like Braveheart.

as far as i can hear it IS the original track that "that excalibur song" was based around.

O Fortuna(Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi) is part of Carmina Burana(Songs of Bueren) which suite of 25 songs.
History: the "Carmina Burana" manuscript, found in 1803 in the monastery of Benedikt Beuren by Freiherr Christoph von Aretin, first published in 1847 by Johann Andreas Schmeller has become very well known through their musical setting by Carl Orff(1895 - 1982)
check them all out

yes i know it's a classic.
the excaliber song is based on samples of it. you seemed to be disagreeing. but perhaps you were just taking exception to people referring to it as "the excalibur theme" instead of recognising the original. yes?

yes as in ... know it for what it is!
when someone refers to it based on a movie, the history behind it music disappears
