Sound problem in D3

In D3, the sound is funny. I have 5.1 enabled, and the fusion charging sound is warbling in and out. It sounds terrible. Results are the same no matter which sound device I use (Direct Sound, Direct Sound 3D and EAX are my only options, and the sound of the fusion charging is identical in all sound modes).

It's not scratchy, like the sound you hear when "High Quality Sound" is selected.

Santa Cruz Turtle Beach 5.1 Sound

Ship Sounds are DISABLED

"Sound" tab in D3 only shows Effects Volume and Music Volume. There is NO option to use "Low Quality Sound", in the SOUND setup. Isn't it supposed to be there?

I know D3 "Low Quality Sound" is far superior to the "High Quality" option (Go Figure!) but isn't there supposed to be another couple of options too? Like "Number of sounds" - or something like that?

In my sound card drivers I have 1032 voices, and 32 channels enabled, as well Dynamic echo cancellation, and true 5.1.

Any ideas?

You ever try looking at the sound options inside the game before you go into a level?

The best bet: Kill the fancy stuff and stick with two speakers. D3 never had good 3d sound.

Flip: Thank You Sir!

I had totally forgotten the Low/High quality sound controls were outside the game!

Low Quality fixed the issue completely.

I'm using Direct3D Sound, and I never have had a problem with it. I get all messed up with 2 speaker sound, as I can't figure out where the sounds are coming from...

My problem w/ Direct3D & EAX modes is that D3 creates the sounds stationary, if eg. you shoot a laser while 3-chording your ship sort of drops the sound and you can hear yourself moving away from it -- too weird an effect for me, DirectSound it is :)
