They've done this surgery a lot; he'll be OK.

Keep your chin up!

Finding a blockage before he's really sick is a good thing.

Mobi's right, Will. Those surgeries are commonplace these days. Your dad's gonna be ok man. :)

I went through a similar experience this Summer. My Dad was at work when he got really weak and sick. It turned out that he had such severe blockage that he only had a few months left to live. They took him to LDS hospital in Salt Lake City where he went through five, YES I did say five heart bypasses and he had a valve repaired and he is 65 years old. It was a scary two weeks but he made it through ok and is doing great now and can move around better than he did before he had any problems. :) So, best of luck to your father bro. :)

Mobi is right X2 man. Be thankful that they found the blockage before it killed him. The surgery to remedy the problem is more or less routine nowadays. Good luck ... I'll pray for you and him.

Open heart surgery's no minor thing, but as Mobi and Pun said, it's very common today. It's much better that he was diagnosed now than after having a heart attack. I'm sure he'll pull through just fine. :) I'll keep him in my prayers.

I really am getting choked up from reading all the kind words and thinking what a great bunch of people I'm involved with here....thank you all, for understanding my pain.

I have been trying to call his room but there is no answer...this is maddening, I must talk with him.

Can't say much that the other's haven't. Those kind of operations are too common to worry about.
Although there's still the 'get well soon' part. After the operation, your dad might be feeling a little weak. It's nothing to worry about, it just means that your dad wont be doing all the things he used to do for a while.

Will I'm sending him good vibes right now. Don't worry, I'm sure he'll be ok. He'll get through it bro, and so will you. Good luck.

HANG IN THERE BUD. I think it'll be ok

Driving places really fast doesnt actually help much and puts you at a lot of risk, due to distraction.

Like everyone else said: heart surgery sounds wild, IS wild, but has also been very optimised over the years.

Well I just got off the phone with him, it was hard to talk but I managed to find out his surgery is @ 6 a.m.?(wtf?) Anyway, they were shaving his entire body in prep for the surgery so I could'nt talk long.
They shaved his 22 year old beard off dam it!

Thanks for all the good will fellas...means a whole hell of alot to me...I feel so much better now but I'm still worried about complications.

:D TY Muff...the support you all have shown is just phenomenal(sp?). I cannot begin to express my gratitude with words since they cannot really even begin to describe the waves of emotion that came over me from reading these posts'. Even the condolences from my few close friends have never come anywhere near the heartfelt blessings I have recieved from this thread. I have to stop short of saying I love you all because of the span of the internet...other than that you've all just been adopted into my family. :D

Still no word this a.m.. :| ..I'm still waiting to hear how the surgery went.

Man, Wish I saw this thread earlier, woulda been here to give your Dad and you some good b4 surgery tips like...

1) Always ask if they have some good restaurants nearby so you can have some prime rib the day after surgery(that's what I had after my open heart :P)

2) Always let 'em know you're a really good patient when you get some good drugs and hottie nurses. Woo Woo!

3) Never tell a joke while your just about to be cut open like I did. heh! Guess they were laughing so hard, cause I had complications. lol!!

4) No matter how bad you think you have to go to the bathroom after surgery, you really, really don't.

But... Since he's already out, Let him know that SuperSheep and Muffalicious say a big "Howdy Ho!" from Aurora, and that you and your Dad, are gonna be alright.

Best of wishes Will to you and your father. I'd offer a hug but thats not the manly thing to do. Beside's, Muffy already got that covered. I suspect once your dad recovers he will feel better than he has in a long time. Tell him to cut back on the cheese burgers though.
