Jack Thompson sinks to a new low...
The guy's an absolute nutcase. It's just pathetic. Does he have any clue that millions of people are laughing their asses off at him even as we speak? I'm especially enjoying the salvos that Tim, Tycho/Gabe (who have actually spoken with him today), et al. have fired off.
jackpeace@comcast.net is his email address.
heh, he gets really angry if you email him .
SOUNDS LIKE A WORTHY GAME TO ME!!!

here's his rather predictable history.

ROFL That was a great read.
Let's get this straight.... this guy.... protests against violent video games, buy telling a game company that he will donate $10,000 to charity if a game company will make a game that is just as or more violent than the ones that are allready out there is that virtually mocks his own purposes?
What a monkeye @$$.
That guy keeps me laughing.

No, what's pathetic is how everyone of you ignored his moral agenda just so you could all jump on the "get Jack" wagon...but even more to the point, not one swingin' **** amongst ya' had anything positive to say about his moral standpoint....you know, the one where he says "No harm can come from such a game, right? Go ahead, video game moguls. Target yourselves as you target others. I dare you." The man is an attorney fer crying out loud....you'd think the focus would be on him even having a moral agenda.

MORALS are relative to your belief system.
ETHICS however, they are more absolute.
Jack's belief system is the direct subject of the butt of all of our jokes. To seriously respect any such MORAL standpoint to emerge from such garbage is ludicrous.
Jack needed to first prove he's not a moron - THEN try to convince people of the validity of his moral standpoint. He just pain skipped the first step for some reason. Since his belief system is WRONG for all to see (*roid gracefully swings arm outwards in a gesture towards large pile of factual inconsistancys*), his conclusions are justifiably assumed to be farcical.

If he keeps this up pretty soon he will go back to chasing ambulances. Oh wait, he's a ★■◆● lawyer which is why he started his campaign against games in the first place. My bad, he's going to eat out of garbage cans instead.

I'm sorry.. Your relative is straight fu<ked in the head.
Blame the parents... And if at least 16 children are big enough pussies to kill themselves each year due to bullying, then good. I'd kill them myself if I could.
Send your kids to martial arts classes, teach them to shoot and respect weapons... teach them right from wrong, and teach them about respecting other people. The blame lies in the parents and the piss poor school system.
I'm in the Army... if people think video games train killers, my job's inheirant purpose circles around the art of war. Of ending lives. Not one person I work with has ever had any intention on killing anyone due to any training or indoctrination we receive.
If you think sniping someone from a roof in counterstrike breeds malignant intentions... try having a REAL enemy and being TOLD to kill him. God forbid it ever happens to me... but I know for a fact that I am a human first and foremost before I am a trooper, and I have the same respect for human life that all my neighbors have... whether friendly or enemy.
If a soldier in the United States military can be indoctrinated yet maintain discression, then a pissant kid playing Halo should have no problem.
America's parents need to keep the government's hands out of their vaginas and own up to stuff. Don't blame a product on your own shortcomings.

look...I know I win no friendship points by declaring what I did earlier but my point is, you guys would not like it if your famo' was involved in something like this and your friends were inadvertently making funny...no, really, stupid comments about a situation you felt like was a just cause. I don't necessarily fully agree with Jack, I do, however, fully support my family within their goals and aspirations...nothing wrong IMME with wanting to do something about a situation that could very well get completely out of control. My whole family is filled with people who will stand up against whomever and whatever and this situation is no different...all I was asking you guys to do is hold the comments to something that won't piss me off...outta' respect for me...not him. thx
will_kill, I'm sorry, but Jack Thompson's arguments constitute slander and libel. His tactics are devoid of any rational thought process. He is insulting, vulgar, violent, and dodgy.
I am insulted that he has repeatedly called me a drugged-out, violent, psychopathic murderer simply because I play video games. It is an insult to me. Were I to encounter him on the street I would have no qualms about showing him just how violent I can be, though I am sure I would not be the first to strike.
You should be infuriated as well. You're posting on a video game bulletin board, full of people your relative has labeled as deranged criminals that deserve to be locked away. You're one of those supposed lunatics. Does his blind anger not faze you?

Well, your arguing tactics resemble his so much, there's no way you could be anything BUT relatives.
How am I wrong? Everything I've stated is a matter of public record, except for my statement that I have no fear about getting into a fight with him, and that I would not be surprised if he were the one to bring a verbal confrontation to blows. That's probably why he never travels alone.

Jack Thompson is part of your family Will?
why are you even here? why should we take you seriously? What reason do we have to believe you don't share his insane, and radical views? I don't care if he's a family member. He's a whacko and deserves to be disbarred from ever practicing law again.
are you going to call me on the phone, scream at me and label me a pissant, then hang up?
"I know this thread may continue but I will no longer be visiting it."
you spineless coward. how dare you come in supporting someone who has called us as a group murderers, and then run away?

Oh for crying out loud, that guy is a complete and utter moron. He blames video games for violent crimes....gee, thats smart. WHO buys the video games? The parents? Other relatives? I've been playing violent video games for the better part of 15 years. Did any of you ever hear of me on TV shooting up my school? No. Why is that? Maybe because I actually have all of my faculties? If a violent video game is going to send a kid over the edge, then something was wrong BEFORE the kid ever got his hands on it. The kid's relatives would know about this prior, thus are to blame. If you really wanted to stretch it, since they already know, and are providing the "catalyst", shouldn't they be charged with aiding and abetting to a crime?
And from what I can see from a certain poster, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. I mean seriously, do you really expect ANYONE here to support you on an open gaming forum? Thats like the biggest duh ever. His tactics reek of cowardace. And quite frankly, anyone that supports him is a coward.
As for your buddy Jack, he or his associates better not hit anyone. See, not only does it open up for assault charges, but a big ass lawsuit that would leave him rather...penniless. Be sure to remind him of that fact as if he and I ever met face to face I will not hesitate to mock him in every way possible. So be sure to tell him that I said to bring it on because I won't be holding back against that frelling coward.

This is my first encounter with the personality of Jack Thompson. If he didn't appear to be notoriously adament in his refusal to actually read and comprehend corrospondence, I would be tempted to draw his attention to the Thief franchise.
The Thief games are set in a fictional city modeled on early renaissance time periods. You play a sneak thief; the point of the game is to infiltrate gaurded places and make off with the valuables contained inside. The primary mechanism for defeating AI is stealth, that is to say, combat is avoided when possible and it is preferable to not be seen at all. These games are considered very immersive.
Though the earlier two games had similar equipment, Thief 3 is a very interesting case when viewed in light of this issue. It contains two pairs of functionally identical in-game utilities. The first is the dagger and the blackjack. The dagger has a backstab function. To use it, you must position yourself behind the AI without being noticed, wait for your character model to raise the weapon, then you press the attack button. If you manage this manuever, the AI will be "killed" and fall to the ground, the body can be picked up and carried around. The blackjack is used in an IDENTICAL function and creates and IDENTICAL result. There are only two differences. The dagger leaves an easily dealt with blood patch whereas the blackjack does not, and the dagger in FLAVOR "kills" the AI while the blackjack "knocks out" the AI. AI which are knocked out are treated by the game engine as dead, without the slightest difference. Apart from animation, the two functions are the same. There is also a broadhead arrow and gas arrow which similarly "kill" or "knock out" the AI.
It should be noted at this time that apart from a restriction in the highest difficulty level text, there is nothing to discourage killing or violence in the narrative, backstory, or game lore. Nothing about the game judges you on your playstyle. You can choose to assult a residence outright, or climb in a window and slink about undetected. The only thing that the story cares about is that you aquired the requisite loot in the process.
Now, here is the interesting thing. Independantly of the game developer and eachother, after they have experimented with their options sufficiently to feel comfortable with them, players of the Thief franchise almost universally shun killing AI, but seldom show nearly as much restraint in knocking them out. I must repeat that aside from the different weapon swing animations (incidentally, the dagger looks MUCH cooler than the blackjack, and the broadhead arrow does not raise the realism concerns of the gas arrow) the difference is all in the head of the gamer. Yet, on any Thief community forum you will find that people prefer to avoid killing any AI, even when they are without the rare gas arrows and a ranged "kill" with a broadhead would make progression much, much easier.
Further, there is the fan-created open challenge of Ghosting. There are three different sets of rules for three different sorts of Ghosting, but the theme for all is the same: turn up AI perceptive skills as high as they go, then complete a level without being noticed, killing anyone, or knocking anyone out. This is not the way the game was designed to be played and is extremely difficult, gamers who successfully ghost a level are invited to post their success with a description of their effort and technique. The point is players who have become immersed in the game avoid using even non-lethal violence purely for flavor, even though it inconveniences them to do so.
Now, I don't see how this fits in with the "trained murderer" psychology we're supposed to have, but maybe that's just me.
