I'm a Russian linguist and I can say on good authority that that's not Russian.

My next door neighbour who speaks russian happened to have popped in whilst i was reading. He isn't familiar with it either.

Descent Forever, the gibberish I typed, what is it exactly? I only ask because the translator recognizes it as Russian.

But to say the truth, original russian line is the realy gibberish... So it can be anything you can imagine... it is not russian tongue. Just a stack of russian words.

This thread threw me for a loop when I saw it earlier today. The problem seems to be that we are literally not all on the same (code) page. I use Netscape 7.2 (a Mozilla-based browser), and it allows you to view Cyrillic languages using a number of character encodings (a.k.a. code pages back in the DOS days). These include the following:
Cyrillic (IBM-855)
Cyrillic (ISO-8859-5)
Cyrillic (ISO-IR-111)
Cyrillic (KOI8-R)
Cyrillic (MacCyrillic)
Cyrillic (Windows-1251)
Cyrillic/Russian (CP-866)
Most of the Russian language web sites that I visit use either Windows-1251 or KOI8-R encoding, so if the text on a page is not readable, and the HTML doesn't specify either of these encodings, they are the first I check in order to make the text legible. They didn't work on BigSlideHimself's initial post, so I assumed the same thing that Unix did (i.e., the text is not Russian). However, I cycled through ALL of the encodings, and it turns out that BigSlideHimself's post IS in Russian, but only if you use the Cyrillic (ISO-8859-5) encoding/decoding option to view it. Unix (and DescentForever) on the other hand used Unicode to embed their Russian text, so we can all see it and agree on what it is supposed to be without switching to a different encoding.
The moral of this story is that this thread shows why God made Unicode. All hail Unicode!

Hate to dig up an old thread, but this is actually important. I tried to find the encoding Akula mentioned, but could not, anyone help me with that?

I'm working on language sets/skins for the ms boards and I have no clue if I got the translations correct on the chinese button images. I have dutch and german yet to come.

edit: Actually, this sentence is sorta weird, because the actual subject matter seems to be between familiar people (friends, lovers, etc.) and yet the formal form of \"you\" is used. Perhaps in literature or something it would be written like this, but it seems odd that it would be written like this in everyday writing/speech.

Sorry, I didn't realize that the exact menu sequence wasn't clear.
For Firefox 1.0, use this sequence to switch:
