Is the scrolling marque screensaver a waste?

Put the scrolling marque screensaver on... watch you text crawl across the screen. After an hour of watching, you soon see that some areas dont get crossed as much as other parts, making it a bad screensaver.

x2
I don't have a screen saver at all, I just have the monitors power off completely after the PC is idle for a few minutes.

the marque screensaver can be quite interesting if you use the WINGDINGS font.

Scrolling Marquee is where it's at. It's a good way to interject politically or religiously sensitive statements into the work place. You know, to maintain just the right amount of animosity and tension amongst your co-workers.

Especially if it's not your computer, or your viewpoints, you're putting up ;)

The really-quickly-scrolling-huge-typeface expletive might be an amusing use of the screensaver.

Screens no longer need "saving". That whole thing became irrelevant in about 1990.
If you like the look of your own name dancing a jig, or REALLY need to see the time swoop around your screen, then OK - but otherwise, LAME.

I guess it may depend on the specific type of monitor you have, but in general, that's about the most incorrect statement I have ever seen you make.

...actually he's mostly right. Quick Google search and reference to a dozen odd sites indicates most CRTs these days are much less prone to phosphor aging of that sort than they used to be; while screen-savers may have a minute effect, it's insignificant.
In the case of LCDs, screen savers are perfectly useless, and in fact potentially harmful (as opposed to turning the screen off) because you're still using the screen.

Mobi's right. Screen savers are unnecessary on modern displays.

Then explain to me why I have seen a lot of monitors (less than 8 years old) with images burned into them?
