I've never used Google Earth, but I've been using this for a while, and it's a really great piece of software. From what I've heard, its controls are far more intuitive than those of Google Earth. This new moon data sounds extremely cool; I'll have to download the update.

I've had this installed for about a year now. My data folders contain over 2.8GB of downloaded high-resolution sections of the world.
IIRC, the full data set, for all spectrums amounts to about 21 Petabytes, or something like that!

NASA-Worldwind doesn't have as high a resolution as Google-Earth does. When i discovered GoogleEarth a few months back i switched to it havn't ran Worldwind since.
it's cool they got the Moon data up now though. GoogleEarth wasn't doing a very job on that - so this can be nasa's earned niche.
(those using google earth can just cut-paste that into the search bar. i recommend this, it's very high res)
to see a lower resolution verion via googlemaps, click here
You can see it, and you'll a lot of weird ★■◆● around the general area too. Stuff like Nuke craters.

yea... I just scanned around the other day and found it. Nothing really all that interesting there. They swept up all the dead aliens.

In general that's true -- the Earth pics are 500-1000m res except parts of the US (1m) and some cities (30cm). The latter is better than Google.roid wrote:NASA-Worldwind doesn't have as high a resolution as Google-Earth does.

I'm not sure that is true with subscribed GoogleEarthers (is that a word??) One of the perks is higher resolution (where provided of course.) But on the other hand, you get those higher reses free with Worldwind.

I've been fooling around with the USGS Urban Area Ortho set, and the results are just amazing. Every time you think you're at the highest resolution, you can go in one more level. One of the examples I saw is that you can actually pick out individual people on Alcatraz Island. I just wish it covered more land area.
