Gaything is a SP level and Gaything 2 is a MP level...

The pics look good, but the name ... ... maybe you want to think again, and try a little harder this time. ;)

Btw, you can turn HUD and ship wiggling completely off for screen shots in the options menu.

You seem to have made a good start in the creative structure department. Texturing isn't too bad either (yeah, black and green is odd, but I swear I've seen that SOMEWHERE before...).

For names, there is plenty of variety out there. Heck, you can use pretty much anything as long as it isn't kind of disturbing like that (although Grax might think differently ;)).

Halo! :D

As for the name....It stays :P It's original, meaning when I get realy good at level-editing and make up to 50 or more it's the name people will know, however some of those people may not want to know... :?

More screenies! :D (Gaything 2)

those pics have to be the slowest loading i've ever seen in my life. I'll have to change them to links dude.

Yeah, they're PNGs, and the better part of a megabyte each.

Note: The 'Portable' in Portable Network Graphics is a lie. They're not. Use JPEGs - much smaller and nearly imperceptible quality loss (we don't need perfect shots to get the idea of the level).

Nonetheless, the level does look fairly nice.

...o.0 that explains why all my PD POTDs have been changed to JPGs :P

I always thought the sizes were as shown (biggest on top):

TIFF -- h quality/h filesize
TGA -- h quality/h filesize
BMP -- h filesize
JPG -- l quality/m filesize
GIF -- vl quality/l filesize
PNG -- h quality/vl filesize ( )

PNGs are extremely portable when used to replace GIFs. For large files with varying colors, though, they're not so portable.

PNGs are awesome. I'd save everything in them if it wasn't for the fact that it takes up to a minute for my slow 2Ghz CPU to process a 1792x1344 image into PNG-24, so it's off to JPG 100% instead. Slight quality loss (viewable by doing an Equalize on the image) but oh well.

Image,

your image file format evaluation is a little wrong.

Generally, you have three formats:

uncompressed
compressed, w/o data loss
compressed, w/ data loss

Both uncompressed and lossless compressed images have the max. possible image quality (in relation to the original's quality). The quality of images compressed w/ data loss (e.g. jpg) depends on compression technique and ratio.

About your mission name:

It's immature and infantile. It's plain stupid. Change it, or ppl will think you're an idiot.

Diedel wrote:Change it, or ppl will think you're an idiot.
It's a little too late for that...Besides, I've gone through my entire life, even through elementry school being known as the Weird or Creepy kid. I have to live up to my reputation :P

No, you don't.

x2

And it's neither weird nor creepy - it's immature, that's all. Keep it if you want ppl to treat you like a kid.

Btw, why should it be too late. That's bollox.

oh now we're gonna nitpick about what to name a level?

people, please.

Posted: Tue Nov 01, 2005 2:16 pm
by Image
And what would you have me call it? If you're going to ★■◆● about it you should have a better suggustion ready, otherwize that's all it is: whining.

Btw, yes it's too late; in reality everyone I know considers me the goofball/weird guy. Besides, it's not a matter of what people think about me; it's wether or not I'm getting a monthly paycheck.

Posted: Tue Nov 01, 2005 2:40 pm
by Diedel
Goofball, ok. Can't see much of a difference to what I said it would make you appear like.

Ferno,

for the same reason I don't think it's a good idea to call a level "Feces 2". There's no positive quality, no 'style' to it. It's not creative at all; it's simply vulgar. If this is a way a person needs to 'stand out' from the crowd: Ouch for that person. Ooooh, man, I am da goofball. I am sooooooooo weird. Phhhh.

Lol

While we're on the subject of maturity, I don't seem to sense any in you right now. Why? The instant someone doesn't take your advice you get all up in their face and start this bloody rant about how stupid the person is going to look. You're no better than me, being such a know-it-all. If you don't like what I do, up yours. Don't expect your opinion to matter so much when all you do is act like a pussy.

Posted: Tue Nov 01, 2005 3:33 pm
by Diedel
If you say so.

I guess it's a waste of time to state that obviously you cannot take an opinion you don't like. Nor do you seem to have a valid counter argument.

keep it up you two and you'll find the thread locked.

Diedel wrote:I guess it's a waste of time to state that obviously you cannot take an opinion you don't like.
Heh, look who's talking :P Besides, if someone gave you an opinion of theirs and you decided to decline, would that be so much different?
Ferno wrote:keep it up you two and you'll find the thread locked.
At this point, who gives a ★■◆●?

He, this time i'm with Ferno.

It's to my opinion, immature from the two parts to discuss about a simple name.

And BTW, the name of a level doesn't make me think that the guy who makes it is stupid or something like that. It's just a simple name, and that doesn't have nothing to do with the real person's personality or inteligence. Please, don't make a storm in a puddle

And BTW, it would be sad if this topic gets closed when the level itself (that's the real topic esence) it's not bad at all. But as i said before, i will understand ferno's reasons for closing it...

P.S.: Keep with the level work, that's what really matters. :)

At any rate, I've made a new 512x512 custom texture for it.

Image

I call it empty - light

PS: I have considered other names:

Option one is "Pile a Crap"
Option two is "Burp"

:D

Posted: Tue Nov 01, 2005 6:36 pm
by Diedel
I guess you are j/k. You don't think using an 512x512 empty (= invisible) texture will make any visual difference to a 64x64 one, do you?

Posted: Tue Nov 01, 2005 9:13 pm
by Image
Not at all :P

However, knowing how to import my own large, complex textures would be the only reason I haven't started working on the outdoor section of Gaything 2; I have a good sky texture that is 128x128 with way more colors than the D2 pallet...

Now, is it going to be Crap or Burp??

Thing added! :D

I think you should reserve the name "Pile of Crap" for levels that actually are. Granted, this isn't the prettiest thing I've ever seen, but it doesn't deserve that kind of name. :)

Where is Option 4???

Poll Option "Image (Canceler) should go back to PD forums"

Mr Wiggle my hand along the Z Axis... This is not the PD forums so tone it down and relax learn to use the edit button... 40 posts in 2 days = ++postcount

But anyways welcome to the DBB, your brother AceCombat is here too!!!

I have a postcount of 40 because I made 40 posts.
I think it's realy retarted not to use the edit button! :P
Sirius wrote:I think you should reserve the name "Pile of Crap" for levels that actually are.
Burp it is. :D

Edit (:P): I can't go back to PD because I don't know my password.. :(
Sirius wrote:this isn't the prettiest thing I've ever seen,
Then I will simply have to remove you of your memory!!

Well Burp 2 seems to be broken :(

So for the time being I've started working on Burp 3 :D

One little screenie:

Image,

I have sent a fixed version of Burp2 back to the e-mail address you had sent it from.

Oh...I guess I should check that more often 8)
Thanx tho :D

Anyway, the reticle and hud stuff has been getting a li'l annoying seeing as screenies would look much cooler without them...What do I do to get them off? o.0

Nvm :P

There's a toggle in D2X-W32 that turns the entire HUD off; all versions of Descent have a reticle toggle under the options menu.

Anyway, that last screenshot is actually pretty nice. Texturing is good, structure is creative and well-executed - looks great!

Image,

you are using a heck of a lot of segments in Burp2. At least in that rectangular room you could reduce the number of segments tremendously.

That architecture is impressive... almost as good as standard D3 stuff. It's amazing what a little OpenGL lovin' can do for a ten-year-old engine, eh? :P

Well, I guess it is physicaly possible, but...that stuff takes time! :P

New room being built:

Image

It's not the greatest view, but that's all I have so far :P

If you can make it out, yay! But if you can't its just sort of a rusty bunch of bars coming out from around the door, with a frame right off of the doorway :D
