Went to go walk a 11 acre piece of property today that I am interested in buying. So I called the real estate agent I'm dealing with and she said that a mountain lion had been spotted in the area and had killed a horse and a couple of deer. I told her thanks for the warning but I had Lucielle on my hip. It was interesting that a apex predator was roaming around as I walked around. The weeds were chest high and gave plenty of cover to a ambush killer. Didn't see anything except a spikehorn buck.

I've seen a mountain lion. I was hiking through yosemite, turned around and there he was. I stared at him, he stared at me with that indifferent look cats have perfected and just walked away.

My older sister woke up to a mountain lion while camping, and nothing came of that either.

Also, there have been multiple sightings of mountain lions near my area, but so far only alot of dead deer. The only violent encounter I had with one was when one killed my rabbit outside my window.

In short, they're not as bad as everyone says. Although with chest-high weeds that were probably the same color as the cat, even with your gun it's likely that you didn't stand a chance if one decided to attack you.

That's very cool indeed.

I understand the Mountain Lion is endangered in most locations - so it's great to hear they are still prowling about in semi-rural areas.

IIRC, they almost never, ever attack humans. Is that correct?

Its rare that they do. Most shy away from any human contact. Its the ones who are hurt and can't catch "wild" prey that seem to end up attacking human or pets.

I have only seen 2 in the wild its a neat sight. 1 I saw went up a hill with a huge incline. I would have bet it could not have climbed it at all. Let alone how fast it ran up it.

that sure is cool woodchip. i probabaly would have been freaked walking aroudn that grass.

Ack, I guess I can never go to Jackson again. Where at woodchip??

Very interesting read. I especially like the quote "Man should not destroy what man can not create!" Strange that I haven't heard that before, it very nicely sums up some of my basic beliefs.
