Actually it's true.
Look at where Afganistan is and then Iraq...
And then look at what country is right between them! No wonder Iran is feeling the 'squeeze'!
heh

OMG, that's funny! Good One, Loth!
P.S. That kinda ties in with this...
http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/10/ ... index.html
U.S. special forces dart through Iran's underground nuclear facilities, gunning down any hapless Iranians standing between them and centrifuges that must be blown to bits.
Much to Tehran's relief, this crack team exists only in a new U.S. computer game. But even these animated saboteurs are too close for comfort, downloadable into Iranian living rooms at the click of a mouse.

And since a not insignificant fraction of American youth can't point to the location of Washington DC on a map, maybe we should invade there.

We know the planet by heart ...
... but then we hadn't had been leading a war during the last 60 years.
ROFL @ dissent. Do you think that might help?

Geographism.....another form of 'ism to hate each other. Hey i'm for it.
Racism, sexism, ageism......Musicism? Toiletism? Flabbyism.
I know your post was a joke Diedle (I'd heard it before actually, quite good though) but there is a lot of truth in it. The bit about Americans having no knowledge of the world they live in.
I used to think Americans were ignorant for their lack of understanding of the layout of the planet, but it's people on this board that changed me mind a bit. Why do they need to look outside their bounderies when they have so many cultures and enviroments within their own? This is the reason for such a low percentage that have passports. (how many on this board have?)They don't need them.
...but i bet you knew that anyway.

I've always been astounded at how little geography some Americans know.
However, invading a country will get the map of said country printed all over TVs, papers, obscure articles in the basement of the local industry planning commission, and other places; thus putting said map into the minds of the American people for a long time.
Therefore, I must wholeheartedly endorse the invasion of Washington, D.C.

Thanks for pointing that out. I think you are correct. Although, a lot of Americans don't feel the need to know about US geography.

I don't want to get too serious about this, but I think it's not enough to have a lot of nationalities (who are getting strongly influenced by your culture, up to the point of assimilation) inside your borders to understand the world outside of them.

Congratulations, you get the "worst joke of the year" award... although actually it is kind of funny.
I suspect this forum's E&C bunch have a better knowledge of geography than most, since it's hard to be a pedant without actually knowing something - although I won't speak for the rest of them.
I'm sure you know why.

I have a 5 foot wide map of the world stuck to the wall above my monitor. For some reason the US occupies the center.

kinda an odd statement seeing as most of Europe's, the mediteranin's and middle east's countries and borders were totally re-arranged by the European "winners" of WW1.
It's Their geography and not they Us's .. but we're working on it.
