Ask and ye shall receive.

Nerdiness aside, it's fairly well done. Very computery looking however.

I'm the friend of Kumba's, and we did a bit more filming today. Here's some of the better footage we recorded, and also an injury I sustained, lol.

http://media.putfile.com/accomplishment
http://x700.putfile.com/videos/30920273617.avi that would be the injury

http://media.putfile.com/best21
http://x400.putfile.com/videos/30920283019.avi <<some of the good footage so far

We were pretty tired when we started filming so our movements aren't as fast and fluid as they will be when we record them again sometime soon. Considering we spent maybe 30 minutes or an hour practicing all those moves, I was impressed with what we had so far.

Good stuff. Being a trained fencer, this stuff looks more realistic to me than the original Star Wars saberfights. You're actually swinging in a direction that will HIT the other guy if he doesn't defend. You have mastered this art of swordfighting on screen that, to my knowledge, most moviemakers still haven't figured out. :P

Again, very well done. You guys might try spending some time just fighting randomly, to get a little better feel for the swords--still, the stuff you're doing is 500% better than most of what I've seen in movies.

That's the look I was going for. I even pointed that out when we watched some of the footage just after recording. I said it looks really good because it looks like we are actually trying to hit each other, not just trying to look cool.

Lol AlamDV2 isn't a very good quality program to use, so I've decided I'm going to change over to Photoshop and After Effects for final filming. So far(going by what we did today, didn't record any footage but alot of fast paced parrying), very few fan films I've seen have gone at the speed we will be going. I really want it to be extremely fast, so once we get past memorizing moves in slow-mo, then we'll pick up the pace once we start filming. We tried a couple of times doing all the moves so far in one continuous lightsaber fight, but it was quite tiring...and my fingers hurt and are cut up pretty bad so I'm probably gonna buy some gloves soon. Not looking forward to when we get the carbon fiber lightsabers and go fast paced...there's gonna be alot of injuries.

I'll tell ya what--you could soften the blows a lot by wrapping your hands in tape before you fight. Wrap both your hands in tape and wrap the blades of the lightsabers in colored electrical tape (hey, it's rubbery and it's colored, which is what you need). That should reduce the impact of those things a lot.

There's other methods of making swords too, but they aren't so well suited to lightsaber fights.

Thats nearly a perfect saber effect, just a bit to thick though.

I agree, other than the fact that its too thick, its perfect.

if i were to do it any thinner you would be able to see my saber prop(which is anakin's lightsaber which can glow red or blue)

the jedi Talliban effect is nice

You actually want to do it without a sword at all, just the hilt

me just tweaking with the colors and havin fun with the proggy

ive had no experience with adobe at all...keep that in mind. im a bit impressed with myself. again, the saber is slightly fat because of the prop.

Problem is it needs to stop at some point. :) Something thinner would work though.

What about the $120 lightsabers? They could make your sound!! :P Not to mention they might actually look real in a dark room :D

Posted: Wed Nov 09, 2005 2:35 pm
by MD-2389
Those aren't meant to be played with dude, and at $120 a piece you can't afford to do the stuff they're doing with them. Not to mention that since they're doing this outside, it wouldn't matter if the hilts made noise as the camera wouldn't have a mic sensitive enough to hear them. Even if it did, they would have to do it inside because the mic would pick up more ambient noise outside with a mic that sensitive. The only thing they can do is paint the blades a color they can digitally map out, and replace with CGI blades. Doing that would be time consuming, but would yield the best results.

um...I can't get it to work. I've tried using Winamp, Quicktime, and Windows Media, and all I get is the audio with no picture.
