Billie Joe's kid goes to the middle school I went to. I think I met him once, got his autograph, etc.

Billie Joe's 2 sons are currently aged 7 and 10 years old.
so i guess the 10 year old would be in grade 5, which seems to be the first year of what is called "middle school" in USA.

how old are you Money?

Middle schools, in california at least, go from 6th grade to 8th grade. 5th grade being the last year of elementary school.

I like Greenday, look to me excellent live, although i think they sound exactly the same as The Levellers (http://www.levellers.co.uk/) especially the lead vocals and the irish influence lurking in the background.

/does quick Wiki run...Nope, not older than me; in fact, according to that article, they were still almost completely unknown when I was several years old.

/reads on...
Ugh, they were the ones who did "Time of Your Life"? Combine that with "American Idiot," and that's way more than enough reason for me to hate them. :P

I'd say it's almost fadish to dislike Green Day.

I like them, and I cover a couple of their songs when I play out, occasionally.

Greenday is alright and I bet the guy writes in a bunch of different styles but is contractually obligated to stay within a certain nitch when producing albums for a major label.

Also, my friend who manages a guitar center sold him some monitors n shizz because he hangs out in Minneapolis I guess. He said he was real low key, very witty and kind.

Whatever that means

Someone in irc once described green day as "the original punk band". I almost lost my lunch I was laughing so hard. I could barely type back "they are neither punk or original". the original punk movement is over 25 years old, get real kid!

that being said they have some ok pop songs.

they theyselves, as people, may fit into the whole "punk" thing but as the music stands, its rock n roll fellas!

the reason i am where i am and what i am is becuase GD. I don't care what anyone thinks, I love every single one of their songs. they've helped me. etc. Their image atm? a bit bleh. but hey, like they said, "we've grown up, and can't write about gettinkg durnk & masturbating forever".

despite that, i disagree and agree with cops.

anyone remember that bonus track 'all by myself' or something like that on dookie??? oh man i laughed my ass off when i listened to that the first time. i personally thought they were the greatest band ever for a month or two in middle school. everything they did after really left a bad taste in my mouth, but the memories that i associated with those songs really stand out!

so... they're still around huh?

(oh and original punk band... sex pistols anyone?)

The Who was punk? Wouldn't have realised... but I never really heard any of their songs first-hand except through that cover Limp Bizkit did a couple years back (which, ironically, is the only one of LB's songs I actually like at all).

But yeah, Green Day have been around a while. Since at least the early 90s as far as I know, but I have little idea where things lie before that. A lot of the more long-lived bands had extended periods of being unknown.

10 minutes is getting up there, but for many bands that isn't even unusual. Pink Floyd wrote a few quite long tracks; Genesis had more than enough also, and Dream Theater does that kind of thing on a regular basis.

I would class The Who as punk at the start.. becuase their image fitted the "★■◆● you" thing.

The Ramones kinda got it rolling, imo. There were a few bands that really started but never got known before the Ramones tho!

Insomniac was a fntastic album!

Also, for those of you that love Tre's wee song, make sure to get "Rat Does Cheese" and DUI.

"Nibble on my dick like a rat does cheese..."

I'd say the first true "punk" band was the Sex Pistols. They were rollin' in like what, '75?

Do yourself a *huge* favor and get the newly re-mastered, color-restored, speed-compensated un-cut version of the DVD "The Kids are Alright" and then tell me that The Who weren't the first punkers.

Pay particular attention to The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus clip. (This clip was Blacked Out in the original film release by order of The Rolling Stones)

Also, there's a very early clip where Pete is doing an interview and getting ready to spin a record. At the end he says "Ahhhh, the Power of Volume" or something like that.

Anyway, right after he says that, freeze frame on the next black and white photo and study it a while....

Rightous Stuff!
