Which mouse would be better for 3D Art/Gaming?

I'm looking at buying a mouse for two purposes.

1. I want a much faster and better gaming mouse.

2. I want a mouse with profile or macros software to link various 3D modeling program hotkeys to. Probably profiles for these apps would be best.

3. Around 7 or so buttons.

As a side note, I don't want anything wireless.

You might consider getting the Nostromo n52. The thing works wonders for me in Photoshop. Then you can get a high-precision mouse without needing to search for one with the most buttons.

its mega hard core super tight ultra pimp y0!! it will get the job done.

(the g7 is wireless but i dun like wireless anymore either)

the nostromoa n52 is mega sweet too!!! LONG LIVE PERIPHERALS!!!

if you are determined to go with the mx518 or the copperhead, i have had some very poor experiences with the copperhead, but mostly due to driver things. thats all i will say about that, but i really dig logitech mice.

I suggest you try both in-store and see how you like the grip. Thats the most important thing. (apparently something Razor learned the hard way with the Boomslang....what a POS that thing was!)

One nice thing about the Copperhead is that I hear you can adjust the sensetivity on the fly. I'm not sure about the logitec.

The Nostromo looks cool but that looks more like a gaming pad than a mouse. Do you move it around on a mousepad like a regular mouse or do you have to deal with the touchpad thing under your thumb? Looks interesting either way.

G5 looks cool but it is missing a few buttons.

I also really like the looks of the Copperhead but at the same time, I want performance and not just something pretty. I wish they would illuminate all mice.

The Logitech looks cool but can you change the sensetivity settings? A friend mentioned that the Copperhead's were too sensetive for 3D modeling but excellent for gaming.

I can't really try these out in a store. Keep in mind that I have really big but thin-fingered hands since I am rather tall. We don't carry mice like this in stores where I live.

We are lucky to have an Office Max which I never have good luck with. They charge a crapload of money for the same stuff you can buy for half-price at Wallmart and is usually higher quality. :\ Their leather chairs fall apart almost instantly due to the crappy paper-thin leather. Ripoffvill. :
It also depends on the size of the mouse too.

I have recently been using the Logitech MX518 for all of my Photoshop / Illustrator work.

I purchased it in hopes that the precision that was designed for gaming would also improve the precision on my art projects.

The difference between the MX518 and my old Logitech M-BD58 is like night and day. The MX518 is a fantastic tool for the job.

although honestly i would just recommend breaking down and buying a tablet like the REAL artists do

u can switch sens. on the fly with the 518... umm the nostromo is a keyboard... not a mouse at all, great for short cutting, and navigation as well as good for games. the G5 has more buttons that the mx518, plus better resolution, and weights and that PFTE stuff, PLUS its only $70 at best buy,,, i mean its everything you could want and more....

i have small fingers, didn't like the copperhead when i tried it.

Hehe, that is actually the plan.

I am mostly a 3D artist so I figured on a mouse for 3D Art and some texturing and the tablet mostly for the bulk of the UV map painting I will be doing.

The Boomslang was one of the greatest mice ive ever used. Dont be talking ★■◆● about boomers here.

I suggest you try out the Copperhead. One of the strengths I had with Razer mice is the on the fly sensitivity adjustment, but apparently Logitech has JUST started implimenting it themselves. But I dont know if Logitech still has their own use for the middle mouse button instead of using the WIndows version, it was quite annoying when I could not open new tabs in Firefox using the Logitech mice!

G5 review

For gaming, you only need 3 buttons + the mousewheel - as thats the only combination that all games support reliably.

Flip, the entire point of the other buttons is the use of macros. I don't want a 3 button mouse. If I wanted 3 buttons, I would stick with my X Raider $13 US.

Funny, I have no such issues with my MX1000. If you run the Logitech software, you can bind the wheel to any function you like.

Oh, I did check out the mouse Messenger mentioned in his OP. I didn't care for the grip on it either, but it was a vast improvement over the Boomslang. If the glowstrip that wraps around wasn't in the way, it would be alot better. If it followed the curve of the surface instead of jutting out, the grip would be alot better. That, and it needs side-scrolling. (I didn't really care about that feature till I started using my MX1000. It DOES make a difference. It would also be more usable if the thumb buttons were placed higher on the mouse where they would be better accessable.

Don't get me wrong Top, I'm not set out against Razor. If they can make a mouse with a good grip thats just as good as a Logitech, I'll buy it in a hearbeat. The Copperhead is a big step in the right direction. I still haven't spotted the Plasma on any display shelves yet, which is a shame since that one actually looked decent enough to use. (for my big ass hand anyways)

Does the Logitech have a profile system for the extra buttons? I hear that the Copperhead does have a profile and macros system to set it up differently for each app.

Its an application called Setpoint. You set up an overall profile, and thats it.

Carpal Tunnel? The shape of the mouse was designed to prevent that. You probably held your hand over the whole thing and palmed it. That is NOT the way to hold it. You are supposed to put the heel/wrist of your hand on the mousepad and control the mouse with your fingers. Its different, but it rests your arm and its quite comfortable. In the 4 years ive used it not once did I get any cramps while using it. Im not beating you over the head, but im surprised that with your supposedly big hands that it was uncomfortable for you. If you held it differently you may have thought differently.

A buddy of mine has one of the predicessors to this mouse and it's awesome. Very comfortable, buttons were easy to manage, and it had some wieght to it. I thought at first that last bit was annoying, but after using a while, it actually helped steady my aim in some games (Ground pounders).

i use the mx500 still on a couple of boxes. i guess i am just sold on logitech. it just seems they do it right, even if they don't do it first.
