winxp & logitech 2.4 wirelss software

Post by woodchip »

For some reason I cannot get the logitech software for the 2.4 wirless stick to finnish loading in win xp. All other games and nostromos software do not exhibit this problem. I've erased or unistalled everything logitech and still no go. I've even downloaded logitech latest version software and the same thing happens...starts the install and then hangs.
What am I missing here?

Failing the software install I tried setting up the stick in D3. I get everything to work except the axis control. The Z axis is the only one the comes up when I click on pitch. Even at default where the x axis is shown in "pitch" and y in Heading, the stick does not respond. Yet if I go through "general/sensitivity the stick responds in the control panel test section.
Clues?

Are you running MS Intellimouse software? I had "issues" with Intellimouse and Logitech freedom software.

Try uninstalling Intellimouse, and then do the Logitech install. If that works, use the Logitech drivers for your MS mouse - they work just fine.

XP doesn't like you, does it Woodchip?

Try downloading the wingman installer from logitech's website, make sure you are using an admin account to install it?

I guess not Fliptw. Though in all fairness, now that I re-adjusted the agp apeture thingy, everything seems to be going smooth...except for this latest glich. I already downloaded "lgs430enu" from logitech and that didn't want to load either. I think this why I went to the ohter harddrive (you know...the one that now is fubar'd) and loaded the logitech software with win 98 and it worked just fine.
Anything in control panel/system/hardware I should be looking for. No yellow or red marks are showing so I'm not sure whats going on. Anything in winxp updates I should have?

When things won't install it's time to become suspicious I think.

How're your USB devices connected? Is the stick on its own, stand-alone port? I'm thinking device bandwidth reserves. XP sets aside a certain amount of bandwidth for each device attached to a USB port. A USB modem, or USB networking component can reserve huge amounts for QOS (Quality of Service). But XP usually warns you if too much bandwidth is allocated to a single port.

Tried removing the stick from Device Manager before unplugging it? Then uninstall the software. Reboot, then re-insert in a new USB port.

Have you tried a self-powered USB hub? They are best, reducing the power load on the Motherboard. That's a long shot though.

Tried the stick in another PC?

Mobi, I love ya man but you're not reading the post. When I tested the stick it responds...axis, buttons etc. The software, if you remember, for the 2.4 requires you NOT to have the wireless controller plugged in until the software tells you to plug it in.

I do have the most recent hyperion 4in1 VIA drivers installed and like I said the Nostromos software installed without a glich so there shouldn't be a admin. problem .

Well this problem is not limited to logitech. I downloaded 3D mark 2004 and I have the same problem installing that. A little searching around leads me to believe install shield may be the culprit. I seem to have 2 copies of install shield, one in the winxp partition and one in the partition I did not format as it had some info I did not want to delete. So their may be some conflict. I deleted all I could of IS in the backup partition but still no luck....yet.

O.K., now I'm going nuts. I just downloaded and installed sisoft sandra. Loaded up like butter.
So whats the deal? Some proggies need install shield and others don't? (me starts singing a raunchy version of "Onward Christian Soldiers" to self).
