Hmm... The fact that you bought it does not make it a commercial success.

Hmm... Daikatana is REALLY a commerical flop, but D3 is not.

It is. Regardless, that wikipedia entry reads like it were written by a retard. =)
More likely it's just the result of a bunch of different people who don't speak english trying to add stuff.
If anyone (Palzon) wants to work on sprucing it up, that'd be cool.
I'll try to fix some stuff up if I get time.

Ummm, yes it is. Many former D2 players on top of that didnt bite.

How so? It didn't come close to breaking even let alone making a profit. If that isn't the definition of a commercial flop, I don't know what is.

I emailed you with his addy, but since you change email addresses every 5 weeks who knows if it got through?

Better to fall off the planet than have 50 bijillion email addresses. Get gmail, it will hold all sorts of pornographic material: Search don't sort. mmmm.... click*

I've worked on that article before.
IMHO, it needs a "Technical" section to put all of that overtly technical information on "scene graphs," "portals," "nearest-neighbor texture filtering," "display mode 13h," etc. It's very disorganized having that engineering speak pop up at various points in the artle.
Also IMHO, it's way too long. It should be trimmed down, eliminating some of the superfluous details. Either that or D1/D2/D3 need to be split into three articles. Trying to talk about all three on the same page leads to confusion.

Hmmm...
"Colored lighting was used for Descent 3. This engine was impressive for its time but eventually id Software released Quake, which was truly 3D and surpassed the Descent engine."
The Quake engine doesn't use colored lights (GLQuake does), particle system, transpaerent walls, terrain system, etc.
The Fusion engine does.
And LOL "truly 3D"?!
I'm not a Wikipedia-protestor, but some articles needs some correction...
Or "surpassed" means the Quake engine was more popular?

note the quake engine existed long before D3....

I know, but Wikipedia says it is better than Fusion.

Descent 1 actually beat Quake to the "fully 3D game environment/enemies" punch, coz descent1 came out BEFORE quake1 did.
but yeah they are a bit confused in how they explain that, descent3 shouldn't be mentioned anywhere in that section since it was released ages later.

Descent 3 in 96(which was when quake was released)?
fact checking wiki needs.
The quake engine was(is?) much more flexible in terms of environment.
descent 1 and 2 was all about the mines.

You know, you guys are free to edit the Wikipedia article to your own liking too. Remember that the Wiki articles are usually not fully complete or fully correct--that's what allowing everyone to edit the content is for.

Wrong. Some D1/D2 weapons and all the D1/2 powerups were sprites. Quake rendered everything as a polymodel, making it the first truly 3D environment.

Wikipedia compares the Descent 3 engine with Quake, not D1/D2.

I'm prettysure Quake had sprites too. Just less of them. (ie: in explosions surely quake had *SOME* sprites)

Quake 1 explosions are sprites.

Quake 1 was just murder in shades of brown... Quake 2 continued by switching to green!

All games have sprites. The D3 explosions are sprites too.

Non-sprite explosions may sort of exist at this point - but they aren't common because of the strain they give the CPU...

They also probably look pretty silly. Most particle systems use sprites for the particles and most modern explosion systems use particles.

WTF? Voxels are used in Ken Silverman's BUILD engine.
They are 3D models, but DAMNED UGLY. The models consist of cubes instead of polys.
