Wireless Linksys Router VPN Passthrough

I currently have the Linksys WRT54GX v1 router with the latest firmware (1.02.10)

I also have an XP vpn server machine behind the router, using a different linksys router with pptp vpn tunneling enabled and a few ports forwarded, I could connect to the machine, however, with this new router, I cannot connect, with the same settings.

Does anyone have any experience with running a vpn server behind this specific router or any wireless routers?

I am considering getting this router to replace the old one, and I was wondering if it would work: WRT54GX4
I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on disk somewhere.
