So it's been ten years now since I first showed up on Kali to play Descent. If you remember playing with me in 1996 (you know who you are!) I'd love to hear from you. Pop in, say hi, tell me what you're up to, how it's going, etc.

Was Kali around in '94 though?

probably not then as Kali was designed for Descent. It took a little bit for the idea to catch on. Check Kali's site.

I remember Kali started sometime mid 1995, but I couldn't use it for almost a year b/c my university dial-up wasn't compatable (too dirty/noisy). Otherwise my kail reg # would be in the sub 100 range, and not 1661...
Before kali, there was just IRC, IHHD and direct connect. I still remember how exciting it was when we first heard Jay was working on a program for playing more than 2 players over a dial-up- it was huge! I think I still have my instructions on how to set up kali in DOS... yep, here there are-
Take a step back in time and see how to set up kaliDOS

Myu kali is 180K but would of been in the 1000's if I knew how to setup kalidos.

Late Late 1994. And from there to January 1996 is not two years, unless one of them is a dog year.
But before you all start spamming up the thread, this isn't a "when Kali started" reunion. The time for that ten-year reunion came and went last summer.
This is a "Who got shot by me in the mines in 1996" reunion.
Actually, check that. It's more of a "Who REALIZES they got shot by me." After all, I left a few smart mines lying around after D2 came out, and in D1 early on I was still running 14.4, and who knows who shot whom with that much lag.

I remember about you... people used to ask me \"Are you related to Sirian?\". Back some years ago my name's \"Kirian\". I had a very good reason to add the extra \"i\"to my name

I don't get \"related to\" questions, but I do get cases of mistaken identity.
Such is life.

Are there any USB sticks on the market that could serve as a reasonable substitute for a 3D Pro? Just wondering.

Personally, I'm using a Saitek Cyborg Evo at present. I can't guarantee you won't hate it though (it has its moments with me, still).

Personally, I use the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro (paid $40 for it, but thats after sales tax and the two year warranty through Best Buy....which was only $5 so it would've been moronic to say no.). I've had it for a few months now and I haven't had any problems with it. The throttle is a little stiff when you first start using it, but it loosens up rather quickly. The center spring is pretty stiff, which is something I noticed right off coming from a force feedback joystick. It takes a little getting used to if you've used FF sticks for a long time, but its worth it. You can reduce it slightly with a little modification, but I just left mine alone.

Master Sirian! I haven't played online in quite a while. KoolBear recruited me into the Rangers back in 1995. I'd just dusted off my old P2-266 with my Canopus Pure 3d II card last week and have been playing through D2. Today, KoolBear contacted me after finding an old \"Ask Ace\" web page he'd created long ago. I thought I'd pop in here for a look, as I hear there's a D2 version for XP now.
Those were some good times 10 years ago....

Cajun! DUDE! Where ya been?!??!
Wow, great to seeya !
*I ment Cajun on the Interplay message boards Waaayyy back. He also got me into Kali.*

I started with the old IHHD and IRC.
Then I moved off to Descent Online by Interplay. Afterwards, rather than move on to Kali, I went to Kahn. It wasn't until just before the ZOD incident that I moved to Kali.
All throughout my time in the early days of Descent, I was on the alt.games.descent boards. Too bad usenet got so badly abused and corrupted by porn ads. But...then again, thank god for the DBB to take it's place.
I still remember when I bought D2..
I was 16 and working at a McDonalds (harhar...) in a Wal-Mart and just happened to walk over to the computer area before work and...OMG! Descent II!!! Needless to say I bought it right away without thinking for a grand total of $55.
I was drooling over it all day at work..and once I got home, I didn't sleep until I'd beaten the base campaign.

MD, I don't even know if my Kali still works. I haven't touched it in nearly 2 years. I'm trying to start it now on my old P2. It says I have verstion 2.613. Kali.net says 2.613 is the latest version. You'd think Kali would have put out an updated version in a few years.
It says it can't find the Kali tracker or the master server.

It should still work. just plug in the new tracking number. Bubba has that posted in his
sticky in the Multiplayer Forum about Kali config.

Yeay, I had found that Duper. It worked. I was on Kali yesterday afternoon and evening. Even played a D2 game on the Ranger's server. Didn't see too many people that I recognized. Need to get a coop game going.
