Wireless hookup problem

Post by thewolfe »

Wireless hookup problem

I have a Toshiba Tecra 8100 running Win 2000.

I'm trying to have it see my network using a D-Link AirPlus DWL-G630 card.

I have installed the drivers and cleared the WEP settings from my network.

I see no wireless icons in my system tray. Only \"Local area\" stuff used at work.

What next?

Windows 2000 wasn't really intended for wireless networks. Install the software that came with the NIC, and you'll be able to connect. I had to do the same thing with my father's box when I dropped a linksys wireless PCI nic in. Windows 2000 really works best with WIRED networks.

When I installed the software and driver and found the \"reception bar\" had some setting in it unlike WinXP.

All is well.

Thanks for the post.

I also recommend you use at the very least WPA instead of WEP. WPA2-PSK if your nic and router support it.
