D3 Question

Does anyone know if the \"Always disbled FindFast when running Descent 3\" option really works unde Windows XP?

Most of our systems run fast enough now that this is no longer an issue. After reading your responces to the Tweaks for XP thread (thanks for the input btw) it occured to me that this option runs along those lines.

Just curious.

XP calls it the indexing service. And you should disable it. :P

I don't believe D3 has any effect on the indexing service, but also I think in XP they were a little smarter and the indexing service runs on an idle priority so it does not have the same impact on games if it starts up for some stupid reason.

I still disable it completely though.

Mobius, it was a default function of windows 98. Most like me at the time didn't know what it was much less enough to disable it. :)

Krom, is that in Admin tools? and thanks!

IIRC, that was installed by MS Office.

Start ---> Run ---> Services.msc

\"Indexing Service\" == Disable and you are set. Note that disabling the Indexing Service does not break searching your hard drives, it only takes a little longer.
