Speaker Hum

When my speakers are plugged in and the volume is turned all the way up, I git an annoying hum/hiss. If I turn the volume down in windows or mute the volume, the hiss goes away. If I unplug the speakers, the hum goes away.

Is the problem caused by my speakers or my soundcard or something else?

I have Logitech Z-2300 speakers and a Turtle Beach Stanta Cruz card.

I think it's due to your sound volume being to high in windows and the louder you put your speakers, the more it hums. I get this problem on my TV with the digital cable. I have to put my TV sound up way high to get the cable box sound at a decent level but I do end up hearing a hiss when I mute it.

But the thing is when i mute it, the hiss goes away.

I'm thinking it is the sound card, but im not sure.

Could it be cables? Or maybe it's picking up interference from anotehr source?

I keep my master volume in windows at 50% even though my sound system connects to the PC via optical SP-DIF. You probably have a cheap soundcard that hisses if it's volume is set to high, turn down the master volume to 50% or 25% and let the amplifier in the speakers do it's job. It's better to not run anything at or near it's maximum volume if you don't have to.

Turn down or mute the inputs to the other sources that you don't use.

Mute all analog sources in the Volume Control. Something in there is undoubtedly the cause. The worst ones are CD and Mic. Line can cause trouble as well. Make sure you enable all audio sources in the settings.
