Thanks peeps. Truth to tell, it's actually been damn easy! I was, quite frankly, pretty scared about being very grumpy, and having bad withdrawl, and wicked cravings.
To try and bypass those things I had several sessions of hypnotherapy and accupuncture, and they seem to have worked, because I don't want to smoke, and don't need to smoke, and only have the odd craving, which goes in about 1 minute.
Yeah, the food thing might even be the toughest part: food is tasting REALLY good right now, and I am trying like crazy to only eat as much as I need.
If anyone else here is considering quitting, then I can thoroughly recommend the hypnotherapy and accupuncture route.

On a similar topic, I haven't smoked (a cigarette) for 14 days now. Prior to that, I hadn't gone a day without smoking in 24 years. I feel pretty OK too.

mind you. I wouldn't scoff at the possability of all of the above benefits being TRUE. the Schizophrenia treatment is definitely true (70% - %90 of schizophrenics smoke). And i know nicotine does help you focus - so the Parkinson's treatment, speed up thinking, boost your brain cells, and "increase your working efficiency" are all quite likely to be absolutely true.Zee Article wrote:Cigarettes, according to China’s tobacco authorities, are an excellent way to prevent ulcers. They also reduce the risk of Parkinson’s disease, relieve schizophrenia, boost your brain cells, speed up your thinking, improve your reactions and increase your working efficiency.
Never heard of the Ulcer thing though, unless it's linked to stress (the stress-ulcer link has recently been disproven though). Has anyone here ever heard of smoking being good for Ulcers?
TopGun, throwing some coccaine in your favourite softdrink still IS a perfect way to get through a hectic day . I've known people to have a little bit of speed every morning to wake them up - afterall it's better for you than coffee and Nasa recommends it.

(As a somewhat unrelated side note, apparently, a glass of apple juice is more effective than a cup of coffee at waking a person up in the morning. I've never tried coffee, but I can attest to the fact that a glass of OJ makes my mornings a lot easier. )

Congrats on the two weeks off Mobius. I've been smoking for 4 months now, and am about to call it quits. Don't think I'm that hooked for only being a smoker for such a short span (I smoke between 2 and 5 cigs a day) but even on the days where I wouldn't smoke it wasn't easy. My trick is going to be having a benchmark to set it by. I've heard some people say they quit when they had kids, gave them enough incentive (especially for a pregnant woman) others buy themselves new cars for when they make it a certain length. I'm about to get into a committed relationship with a great girl, and decided the day of I'd stop. Problem for me is that it's just so much fun, sometimes nothing in the world feels better than lighting one up after a long day, and I find now that I get real irratible with people really easily if I haven't smoked all day. On the other side, I've lost 20 pounds since I started smoking, which isnt' good for me since most of that was muscle and I used to workout quite regularly. Smoking makes one apathetic.

Hmmm, I am smoking more pot than I was - that's for sure - but my buddy who gave up 4 years ago had the same experience and his \"other\" smoking reduced gradually over a couple of months.
I have put on about a kilo or so in the last 2 weeks, so I am going to have to be very careful about what I eat.
It's funny now: I can tell if a smoker has been in the elevator, and when a smoker comes into the room, I can tell immediately.
I still LOVE the smell of tobacco burning too. I doesn't worry me when smokers stand next to me, and in fact, I'll try to move down wind, so I can get a small whiff of the smoke! HEH.
I hope I never turn into one of those \"OMG, YOU HAVE GOT TO STOP SMOKING NOW!\", or the \"Get away from me with that disgusting thing\" people.

Re:
Wait...you actually LIKE that smell? My dorm's bathroom smells infinitely sweeter than the stench of cigarette smoke. Hell, I've had things come out of my *** that smell better! It's acrid, caustic, and absolutely nauseating; I can't even stand walking behind someone outside who's smoking. Then there's the fact that half of the smokers in my dorm complex seem to congregate in the alleyway outside of my window; I end up sweating to death with my window closed due to the dorm's over-excessive heating, but it's still worth it. Mobitroll, I think all of that pot has really gone to your head.Mobius wrote:I still LOVE the smell of tobacco burning too. Smoking is good! It feels like... like thiss....
I quit smoking the beginning of last July. It was definitely a relief on both my body and my wallet. I started smoking at 14... Yes, 14. I turned 21 and then quit smoking shortly after. I'm very proud of that accomplishment because it didn't seem like I was going to ever quit. I don't mind being around in the same room with someone that smokes. The smell doesn't bother me too much, but if it's a bunch of people that are smoking... Then it gets a little too overwhelming. Smelling the smoke doesn't make me want to have one.. It just makes me realize that I used to smell like that. Ick. Best of luck to everyone that is currently planning on quitting that habit. It's not an easy task.
This thread is such a downer... There should be a PTMC rule: No sad things... eh...
