Prevent Vortex from expiration TODAY

Vortex will expire on 2006-03-31

First thing: I DON'T wanna start a discussion about \"hey this sucks! / how crappy! / why the heck?\"

Everybody hates this \"feature\" - including me. I know this, Skorp (the developer) knows it now and everybody knows this ;-). Most likely next version will NOT contain this code anymore...

What's up:

When Vortex is expired there is NO WAY to get it going again until an update is installed. But there IS NO UPDATE AVAILABLE at the moment. Changing the date AFTER the 31th March will NOT let you continue using the tool!

The only way to prevent from this is to change the date TODAY or tomorrow to a while back. There is almost NO WAY to trick Vortex after it expired, so...

For those who do not want to change the date (some people (like me) might have good reasons for this) should use another IRC-Tool (I use www.trillian.cc )and a serverlist tool like KQuery ( www.kquery.com - read the tutorial from Suncho: http://suncho.com/kquerytut.html how to use it for D3).

Skorpion is not at home for some time. With a little luck he maybe back at home on sunday (depends on the local inundation problems) to get an update out. But I can't promise anything at this moment...

Until that you all have to chose: Use different stuff or adjust date...

I'm really sorry about this but i can't do ★■◆● right now. :-(

I tried it out already yesterday (switched a month ahead) and my Vortex won't start again now. No way. Better don't waste your time trying...

Ofcourse http://descent.cx is still working!

LOL. I remember you're linuxxer right?

Vortex is a Descent-3-related tool which provides:

- IRC-Chat tool with default server-profiles for all 3 bigger descent-related chats plus the option to add individual other irc-chats
- join different chatrooms / servers at once
- a serverlist from descent.cx and gamespy tracker to inform about games, users, scores, mods, etc.pp.
- "auto" download and extraction of missions (by rightclick a server)
- "auto" download and extraction of mods (by rightclick a server)
- a chatserver-independant buddylist
- a commandline-switch-creator
- a lan server list
- a relay function to support online servers (even filtered) to be displayed ingame (comparable to Munk's Loki-Patch)
- a direct join into games feature
- launching D3 into games by website-links like d3://217.160.16.30:2092

and many many more...

screenshots of an older version can be found at www.slyclan.de

As for Kquery, from their license agreement:
This software needs to contact its master server to keep itself updated, and in the process will transfer some local information to do so. You hereby agree that information collected by the software can be transmitted via the internet for viewing by other people, for archiving, for statistics compilation, and as such is kept in accordance with the UK data protection act.
<churchlady>aint that special</churchlady>

I want my vortex back. Now.

EDIT: I would be willing to look at some other tool besides Vortex or Kquery if one exists.

Actually I think it's a good thing kquery makes that info available -- that way D3 gets some exposure. You should read up on the data protection act, europeans take their privacy/data protection a lot more serious than the US.

Edit: Are you using Steam or play WoW ? Now that's something I would be concerned about :P

They make that hard to find also. Could you tell me were you found the License Agreement? I don't see the LA in the Kquery software or on their website.

Its in the license agreement when you first install. I always read those very carefully.

BTW, even though it wont do any good, I send this to their feedback system:
Just wanted to let you know that when I read this in your license agreement:

I clicked "I do not agree" and that was that.
